I just heard this song for the first time tonight, since i finally bought Junta over the weekend at a used music shop (my favorite place to pick up CDs) The way the jam ebbed and flowed and really had lots of dimensions was cool. I love all the other Phish compositions, but this one almost seemed like it was the 1st they ever did, that tried to push as many boundaries as possible. maybe i dont know what im talking about, but it was really somethin’…
The essence of the Oh Kee Pa Ceremony.
I didn’t really enjoy it until recently. but when you really listen, it’s great.
I think with the addition of Union Federal and the two live tracks to Junta, it officially makes Junta the definitive studio album. You’ll notice I didn’t say best, but the studio songs, crazy improv, and funny live stuff are all there.
I didn’t think UF was a composition… It’s a complete improv song. Fluff’s Travel, YEM and Bowie are examples of comps.
Yeah, UF was really a 25-minute musical exploration, directed by some “special” hot cocoa.
i’m listening to it right now, 16 min. in, spacey jam with some some interesting piano from page, kinda dark. i love it.
God I need to just break down and buy Junta. My first ex had it so I never bothered to buy it.
GREG! How do you not have it already!! c’mon!!!
yea, Jesus Greg, youre a goderator for christ’s sake, just do it. bacardi and coke, do it.

listening to this the other day i noticed that within union federal there is a section that reminds me a lot of a section of the tweezer from ALO, just curious as to if anybody else hears this.
sorry i don’t have the exact time of both tracks that sound similar for ease of comparison, but if anybody likes to listen to phish to try and finds similarites in jamming techniques, check both tracks out and decide for yourself.
i find it similar at least, do you?
