Here is a copy of the email I sent Dry Goods upon opening my Vehgas '96 pre-order:

This is so cheesy. It really is a piece of junk. All smushed, no glue holding it together but rather folded into itself, and the dvd has all kinds of room to slide around inside its over-sized crappy “bonus disc” sleeve. I can’t believe that the quality control is that ephed up, I really can’t. WEAK SAUCE! I mean, Live Phish was assembled well, Hampton Comes Alive was assembled well, NYE '95 and Brooklyn '04 and Colorado '88 were assembled well. Why now are we getting swag?
Anyone else disappointed?

I haven’t seen it but is it really $45 bucks?? For a soundboard of a show and some dvd footage?

no way I’d pay that.

There’s different levels of purchasing.

Plus, I dunno…$45 for 3 crisp recording CDs and DVDs taboot? That’s like $10/CD and $7.50/DVD.

I have not paid for it, I don’t plan on buying it, but will not chastise anyone that does decide to do so.

I say any decision to gather any Phish - official or unofficial - is OK in my book.

The problem is, we only have like 11 members who regularly post, and I would be surprised if more than 1 of them splurged on this package.

Hopefully I’m proven wrong though.

I did pay 45$ for the CD/Bonus CD/DVD package. I really like this show, but the source I have isnt great, especially the encore, which is a big part of the show.

When this was first announced as the next release I sat down, and gave my copy a real hard listen. In the end I decided I liked the show enough and didnt like my source enough that it warranted an upgrade. But the DVD/Bonus CD definitely “sweetened the pot”.

I only ordered it on Saturday, so I probably won’t get it 'til next week.

If the sights and sounds are of top quality, I probably won’t mind all that much how its packaged. But thats just me.

Do you know what the problem (and I am not saying this a problem with any one site in particular but rather with the internet forum communities ass a whole) is? The problem is there is just too much keyboard courage. C’mon, you know what I mean, you know exactly what I mean. People hide behind the power of anonymity and say, and by extension do, things on the internet that they would normally not have the courage to do if they were in a room full of faces they had to look in the eye. I have joined and left half a dozen online communities in the last two years because all of this became too much for me to deal with without getting caught up in the trash talking and elitist behavior. I am no better mind you, I either fall in with the mob mentality or end up developing my own “holier than thou” attitude and flake out. Let he who is without keyboard courage cast the first keystroke. That being said, I hat my Vegas '96 boxset.

And yes there is this keyboard courage, as you say… but it also frees the little man to pretend he’s a big shot stud muffin! Glory days!
