Student Candidate Lies About Va. Tech Cousin For Votes

ASHLAND, Ore. – A candidate for Southern Oregon University student body president has admitted she was lying when she claimed she had a cousin who was killed in the Virginia Tech shootings.

Brandi Freeman spoke at a candlelight vigil held by students at the university campus in Ashland Thursday night.

With tears streaming down her face, she had claimed she had lost her cousin in the shootings that left 33 dead at Virginia Tech.

By Friday, Freeman admitted to making up the story to appeal to voters for the student body election next week. She also said she suffers from bipolar disorder.

Freeman is a dean’s list student and a member of the student senate. But she said she’ll likely drop out of the student body elections because of her actions.

Everyone should drop out of school.

I’ll second that.

On “This Week w/ George Stephanopolous”… the round table discussion with George Will (who I find myself agreeing w/ most the time), Cokie Roberts(read Cokie=Crazy) and Sam Donaldson (who has the best hair in the business)… I’m digressing but the POINT; Mr. Will raised a case (I’m sketchy on details) where a gunman killed a dean and another person on a college campus but was sudued by 3 students before he could kill more people. How’d they do this? They retrieved thier own guns from their cars. The basic point being how are you going to fight a person with a gun? With another gun, of course. That is why I think taking guns out of good peoples hands is wrong… only those who mean harm wind up having them. Now, in a perfect world there would be no guns, we’d abolish guns. But guns exist and good people need the means to defend themselves.

Ugh, you must understand I hate the whole thing; guns, war, weapons. But I don’t understand how we can just let crazy people with the intention to harm others run loose in the world without working to subdue them. I think that takes bravery.

thnkfrstpal - my point was that you may want to recosider your approach to these issues. if your content just yelling about how unjust the world is the fine. proceed as you were. but if you really want to affect policy you’re going to have to connect with the mainstream. centrists aren’t going to hear anything you have to say if you spout about 600,000 dead and a president who hungers for blood. you end up marginalizing your argument and your cause.

if you want to effect change you need to do exactly as your name says… think first pal. the patriotic, relgious center of american politcs can be reached, but you need to have tact. essentially, you have two options: play the patriotism and moral arguments to your advantage. or, vote for nader and continue screaming about injustice. but if you choose the latter, from my point of view, you’re simply reinforcing the policies you loath.

some people will get it, others won’t, no biggie.

sleep well.

Zoot, I hear you. thnx

Tune in, turn on, drop out?

thnkfrstpal…are you serious? to say that bush is equal to cho is literally the most ridiculuos thign i have ever heard in my life. you are being a stereotypical radical politician (ignorant). lets be real here

I’m not sure what your trying to say here, but if what I said in my last post doesn’t penetrate your skull, well…I’m just done arguing with you.

it’s all good, great discussion. Anybody get that ben and jerrys shake with the free songs?

The problem isn’t that good people can’t get guns. The problem is that crazy people can too easily. Gun control opponents always argue that limiting the sale of guns isn’t adressing the real cause of the problem and is wrong because it would limit our freedoms and not really fix the problem. Then they turn around and back up their arguments with statements with reasoning like “If someone had a gun they could have stopped this person”, as if the lack of guns in the school caused the killing spree.

It’s just a bad argument. Yeah, someone with a gun could have stopped him. Someone with a gun could have missed and killed someone else and then he could have shot them. Ten people could have rushed him and beat the shit out of him. There’s no way he could have taken all of them out.

My point is that gun sales could very easily be restricted in the US without limting the freedoms of gun owners, and it would reduce the probablility of gun related deaths.

If limiting gun sales is such a threat to peace in America, maybe we should just make gun ownership madatory, like in Switzerland. Everyone would receive military training and it would be law that every home has a gun. I don’t think that includes concealed handguns, which we need to protect form the crazy people on the street. So on top of making it mandatory for us to have rifles in our homes, it should be mandatory that all people carry handguns as well.

Reason at its best!

HONOR TROOPS LIKE VA. TECH DEAD: Says Army Sgt.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070423/ap_on_re_mi_ea/afghanistan_flag_complaint;_ylt=AsledAwXZDflEQQ5lRZNF6EDW7oF

I told you.

This is the first, but I’m sure your gonna start hearing alot more people saying this.
And rightly so.

People are so shocked, yet all you see is pictures of this crazy killer and memorials to the victims.

When was the last time you saw a flag draped coffin?
Or even our administration acknowledge that our own kids are being killed daily over seas?

Is this whole Va. Tech stuff hypocrisy or just me?
Please let me know.
Is hypocrisy even the right word?

It is a form of hypocrisy I suppose.

Its mainly that most Americans don’t want to think about the war in Iraq. Its reached a stalemate point and most everybody just wants a way out, but we’ve got a stubborn president who doesn’t care what the American public wants. His best interest is to stay in Iraq, and that’s what we’ll do until his term ends. We’ve definitely been desensitized to all the violence in Iraq, since its so commonplace.

The VT massacre is not commonplace at all, and it happened on our own soil, so we (mainly the media) freak out about it. Plus, there is a little difference in that the soldiers have volunteered to go to Iraq and risk there lives. The students at VT didn’t volunteer for what happened there.

that kid was a dick. fereal, the fact that anybody’s giving his whack ass videos any airtime is rediculous. That’s what he wanted to happen, why are we honoring his wishes? He was just some prick. Giving attention to the victims and the effects is justified but overexploiting anybody in that situation or giving a shit about that kid’s stupid pictures is absurd.

the medias out of control. One can’t help but realize in this day and age that the people who own the corporations that own the networks that broadcast the news are the ones profiting from the war and all the other bullshit happening throughout this corrupt government of ours, and when the people fucking you in the ass control what you find out about, they aren’t gonna tell you how badly they’re fucking you in the ass that’s for sure.

In other words, i watched the news for about an hour a couple weeks ago and the ONLY things i heard about were Anna Nicole’s baby DNA test and the guy who said “Nappy headed hoes”. And this was on MSNBC or CNN or one of those “legitimate” news providers. Seriously folks, the world is in turmoil right now and its affecting all of us at all times, in all places. If the only things we’re hearing about is some shock jock that said something offensive and some whore that couldn’t figure out which one of the dozen guys she fucked one day is the father of her child, somebody dosen’t want you to know about the bigger picture. Something is wrong. Now that there is an actual story that affects more than one person’s life to report (the VT massacre), sure enough they’ll be all over it until the next thing comes along to take debate away from gun laws.

In summing up, the same people that tell Bush and Congress what to do, have control of what the news reports. When the real story is their corruption at your expense…they aren’y going to tell you about it.

but back to the original topic here, heaven be with all the victims here AND overseas…and seriously, to hell with that Cho kid. I mean what an asshole.

Jaw out.

Right and my point is one could argue for either side and make good points depending on ones particular mindset.

Anyway what IS going to happen is a law making people with a case history of mental illness unable to purchase a gun, easily.

And thats it. The Dems lose elections over stuff like this and gaining control of the White House is too important to them.

Gotta love politics.

wow, this was one year ago?

RIP

I thought for sure this was two years ago while watching the Sportscenter special on it last night.

hmm
