WAKARUSA Memories

dude there are tons of music festivals in Canada, you just gotta know where to find em. there was one the weekend before i left called Shamabala right near Nelson.

^ I know there is, but no one you REALLY wanna see ever plays at any of them…There is a good bluegrass festival in Edmonton that Del McCoury headlines almost every year…but there is never any good “jam rock” festivals, if you take my meaning. Just one good one with a couple of big hitters is all I’m askin for…

Once when I was in Canada we went to some festival/concert near Sardinia (I think that was the city).

Tragically Hip, Foo Fighters, and a few other bands. It was fun rockin’ with my neighbors to the North!

IT’S HERE! This show was fantastic. Especially since before the show Thom and myself were gettin’ down to ‘The Squirming Coil’ studio version… ;D

^ dude, that was one sick set!!! And a hell of an awesome time!! soul shakedown party!!!

say it ain’t so FunkyB!!!

i find that hard to believe…kansas doesn’t have much to offer as far as scenery, IMO. but then again, i love minnesota…so i may be biased. ;D

i liked how all the camping was in pretty much one place at Waka and the lake was easy to find. but i also might have a biased because of trouble on the way to 10klf, whereas going into Wakarusa i got to arrive with a fun band of dudes and no worries.

ouch marianne…ouch

dude, it was the band Groovatron!

waka was the shiz-nizzle-dizzle-4-rizzle.

got that?

the fact that it’s in trouble displeases thom…and when thom gets mad he talks about himself in 3rd person…balee dat.

wakarusa = best time thom had in the summer of '06…hetty vibes and like…hetty crystals…and there were nuggets too…real ones…with like…red hairs…lots of red hairs…and then…then…then they dosed thom…or thom dosed himself…or…

man waka seems like yesterday…

sigh.

I had a blast! I was totally oblivious to the police shit. And the scenery was fvcking wicked. I even went back to Clinton State Park last month to camp with the fam…it looks like a totally different place without the festival. It’s rolling hills and trees are beautiful. Green fields, wickedly clear lake, tons of deer, good fishing, cool park rangers, mellow vibes. I will definately go back next year, if Waka still exists. Best time of the summer!

WesManTooth will be there as well…

ah Waka Waka, did i mention that tthis is my favorite thread?

Vern… you took your son? And smoked with him?

that’s crazy to me, dunno if it’s good or bad.

deserves its own thread.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

No coincidence teh kid ate everything in sight.

Vern’s son is like 16, and sometimes he didn’t let him smoke.

LOL I don’t remember that…when did he not let him smoke?

I don’t remember, but I remember when he told us to skip him in the rotation, something like that…that whole weeekend was a little hazy

hahaha… ok pass the bowl… but not to my son… just skip him

ahhh weeed

I felt he had overdone the smoking at times (especially when I wasn’t with him), and so I felt the need on a few occasions to not pass to him.
I felt ambivilent about letting him smoke at the time. I knew he had many times before, but it was the only time he has with me (save for his first Panic show at 15). He’s not allowed to here at our home, although I know he occasionally does outside of our house, especially with his band.
This may seem like a paradoxical situation, but I feel it is a healthy way of letting him become an individual. I did it at his age, without my parents ever knowing, and led a parallel life from home. I lied a lot to my parents and hid all kinds of shit. We seek honesty and truth in our household, but also expect him to grow as an individual. Therein lies the reasoning.
Therefore, we have adopted a “don’t ask/don’t tell” situation regarding his activities in that aspect of his life. Sex is a different story. He gets condoms, and education on all of that issue. But casual pot smoking is a big part of a teenagers life these days. And I feel it’s intellectually stimulating, since it was for me in my life. As long as he doens’'t come home “ripped” or “blazed” or “wasted”, and uses moderation, it’s okay with me.
Hence, why I moderated his usage at Wakarusa.
