has he done 46 days of heavy things before?

Man, I can’t wait for the philly show on wednsday.

he does a good amount of those poppy phish tunes

heavy things
gotta jibboo
etc

couldn’t these setlist updates be placed in the Trey Fall Tour thread in shows/meetups? I wouldn’t mind doing this/having this available for every show this tour, but individual threads would be too much.

And, this really isn’t phish discussion. Its Trey discussion.

Ok, this will be the last post…from now on I guess we’ll make them in the Show/Meetups board?

FWIW, the second night looks decent, particularly the second set.

I’ll never complain about a Trey “Push On,” “Sand,” “The Way I Feel” combo. A “First Tube” set closer, taboot.

he played divided again?? That’s kinda lame. It tarnishes how special the previous one was.

I wish I could hear a Trey version of Sand. The Phish versions from 1999 and 2000 are very repetitive and usually go on way too long.

^
I caught a TAB version in 2001 Deer Creek version that was certainly unlike Phish versions…what a BIG groove! Actually, come to think of it, I saw it twice last year, too (70VP - eh).

Even with 70VP I think, in some ways, it would be better than a Phish version from 99 and 00. Trey himself talked about how he wrote “Sand” and “Gotta Jibboo” for his solo projects (TAB at the time), and they just ended up being Phish songs.

I still love the one version I saw live (12.30.03) simply because it DOESN’T do what 99 and '00 versions do, which is trail off into 15 minutes of spacy/trance stuff. Trey plays bluesy riffs and leads this shorter version (10 minutes) to a nice climax before segueing into -->Shafty. Also, it was a bust-out and was played tightly.

There’s something missing from the setlist on Trey.com

To close the 2nd set with the strings and Trey on acoustic,
they performed that piece that Trey composed which
incorporates instrumental sections of Guyute and (I think)
My friend, My friend.

It was beautiful…I was hoping for Divided Sky but we ended
up getting that later.

Ok…Last night was phenomenal show.

This band is cooking!

For a relatively last minute replacement, Jeff Sipes on
drums is amazing. Really nuanced and subtle and then
really storming and kick ass too.

Tony Hall has really stepped up in this band on bass.
When I first saw him with Trey, I thought he was a very
tight, in the pocket, hold down the groove kinda cat…
Which he still is…deep! But he’s also much looser
and freerer now and really drives the jams at points.

I was not a huge fan of the Trey Band with Skeeto
and the 2nd guitar player.

It was too much ‘bang bang bang bash bash bash’ type
of jamming. These guys get intense too. But there’s
so much more subtlety and nuance and funk and jazzy bits.

Trey is having fun…which is part of what makes a great
Trey show.

No matter how sophisticated or mature he becomes…he’s
still retaining that child-like enthusiasm which makes us
all feel like we’re in on the jam. He projects such a gracious
warmth and openness on stage. It’s very beautiful to watch.

The new tunes blended well with the familiar ones.

‘If you’re walking’ (2nd tune in) got so intense and so far
out in the jam. 46 days too. They were playing
the song and it was fun and it was 46 days…but then
at one point in the jam…the tension shot up about 5 notches
and everyone in the room seemed to be feeling it.

This is a fun and exciting show and I’m sure it will
evolve as the tour goes on.

I’m sorry for those that missed the Divided Sky.

Just Trey on acoustic and a lovely string arrangement.

The crowd (and trey) collectively sung ‘the’ lyric.

It was really fun to see people dancing and pumping
their fists to a song with just strings and no drums.
It must have been a trip for the string players.

And when he gets to all those beautiful melodies and
chord progressions towards the end…it was a very powerful
and emotional experience for everyone there including Trey.

I don’t get (and never have) the sizable portion of the crowd
the likes to drink and drink and drink. And talk really loud
during the jams and the quiet parts. And bump into you
and spill beer on you and all that. I just think a bar might
be a better place for that. Oh well…I guess it comes with
the territory. For the most part though…it was a very
good vibe.

Oh and the other thing I noticed was…where have all the women
gone to? This was a VERY male dominated crowd. Of course…
white males…18 to 30. We know that. But I remember there
being more gender diversity at Phish shows.

I had a blast. This was just another chapter in my (and many
others) many years relationship with Trey and his
creativity and spirit…and I’m pretty darn grateful for it.

Have fun everybody…

^ Cool post man. I like to hear Trey’s band is doing some more improvisational jamming, and not the “Bang Bang BANG” stuff that you mentioned.

The drunken sweetdudes will always be around. Just keep on "shhhhh"ing them and giving them dirty looks until they hopefully realize they are ruining the concert for other people.

thanks for the review toddamo. i really want to hear this now.

and i was wondering when someone would comment on how jeff sipe was sounding with the band.

This show looks like it was a lot of fun. In response to hearing Trey play Sand, I saw this version which was unbelievable as the line-up suggests:
07/22/01 (Sun) Verizon Wireless Music Center - Noblesville, IN

Set 1: Actin’ the Devil, Push on Til the Day, Come On, Baby Let’s Go Downtown, Last Tube, Instrumental, Alive Again

Set 2: Burlap Sack and Pumps, At the Barbeque, Sand* > Mr. Completely > Windora Bug, Plasma > Simple Twist Up Dave, E: Mozambique

Comment: * Trey on keyboards (3 keyboardists!) Jam stops at one point and starts up again almost a full minute later in the Sand groove. This leads to a long Medeski solo. Lineup: Trey Anastasio - guitar and vocals, Tony Markellis - bass, Russ Lawton - drums, Dave Grippo - saxophone, Andy Moroz - trombone, Jennifer Hartswick - trumpet, Russell Remington - saxophone, Ray Paczkowski - keyboards and[color=red] John Medeski - keyboards.

I also saw this version of Sand in Oregon where we got to meet Trey and the Whole Band after the show:

05/22/02 (Wed) Salem Armory Auditorium - Salem, OR
Set 1: Cayman Review, Mozambique, Night Speaks To A Woman, Noodle Rave Daddio, Money Love and Change, At the Gazebo, Last Tube
Set 2: Mr. Completely#, The Way I Feel, Drifting#, At the Barbecue, Ray Dawn Balloon, Sand, E: Alive Again#

Sand is always a great song to hear by a Trey Band. I’m sure I’ve heard Phish play it, but it dosen’t stand out in my mind, where as the Trey Band versions immediately jump to my memory. Good Stuff.

i was there last night. trey was rockin the house down! and i danced my ass off the whole time on the far front right side of the stage (stage left). I thought I heard part of my friend my friend now that you mention it, because i was waiting for it to go into the crazy part, but then he just cut it off. Divided sky was also pretty sick!

wait…so there was a guyute or not?

wait…what?

This was actually on the front page of RS website

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/12004580/trey_anastasio_kicks_off_tour_in_new_york

(although not much is said in the article that wasn’t already said by peeps in attendance from this board)

Yes, My Friend My friend went into guyute right before the lyrics to my friend were to be sung. I though it was a good show, and you guys should defietnly check it out . I really liked goodbye head from both nights, especially night 1. I think Jeff Sipe was a little quick on the beats though particualry Sand was more faster than it normalyl is,.

my friend saw this show…

he got into the after party and met trey, got a hug from trey (after he told the big t about him losing his brother in a freak accident over the summer) got an autograph and chilled with the VIPs even though he didnt have a VIP ticket…

theres something about this kid that he goes anywhere he wants when at a show…

hes gotten into PNC in NJ at least 4 times w/o a ticket

maybe he carries a lucky rabbits foot?
