It’s a 420 MIRACLE! Thank you, baby Jesus!!!

who replaced Claude on drums??

It seems that every 3 years they do a nice little Canadian run as well, and the last time they were around was 2007, so here’s to hoping that trend keeps up. I really hope they’ll get a new album out this year too. Nothing better than new Ween songs to analyze to death.

I saw them back in 08. one of the greatest bands around.

OK, I’ll go ahead and say it: what does everyone like about Ween? I’m not saying there isn’t anything to like, I’m just wondering, because whenever I’ve listened to them, it has just been really weird and kinda childish sounding. Maybe I’m listening to the wrong stuff. Will someone please enlighten me about their live shows? They are playing here, and I am thinking about going, but I would like to know more about it.

Ween was gone?

I’m kidding! I’m kidding!..wait…no…no, I’m not…

It’s a combination of them being the best songwriters around and putting on an incredibly fun and epic live show. I don’t know how to describe their shows other than by using the words fun and epic. If you’re going to a Ween show to just sit and enjoy the music than you are going to see the wrong band. You go to see Ween to be a part of the show and interact with the band. I’m not talking about clapping or chanting Wilson or anything like that. I’m talking about truly giving the band all your energy and them in turn giving it ten fold back to you. If you go see Ween, expect a lot of yelling, fist pumping, singing, dancing, drinking, smoking and most importantly loving. A Ween show is more a party than a recital. They’ll play what the audience wants to hear, and unlike most bands, the louder and more obnoxious you are, the better the chance of them playing your song. I’ve had them play at least two of my requests on two different occasions. The best show I saw involved my buddy throwing a full beer on Deaner like 5 songs in and they played for at least 4 hours that night including a 6 song, 45 minute encore.

I guess really what I love about Ween is that Ween loves their fans, and they play for their fans and if you don’t like it, they don’t care. They’re never going to play music that’s going to appeal to the masses. You have to be a little crazy to even venture into a Ween show, but to truly appreciate it, you just have to surrender to the boognish and realize that Ween is doing it for you.

Or maybe that’s just me…I really don’t know why people in general like Ween, but that’s kind of what I like about them.

Man, great post, thank you so much for your reply. That answered my question perfectly. I just might have to make it to that show. It is in a very tiny venue.

I saw them at that Asheville place in 02. SOF you must go! Like Phish you must go to a show to fully understand. There is a reason some of us on this Board choose Brown as our color!

Goldenroad just explained why people like Springsteen, U2 and Jimmy Buffett as well. The interaction between those artists and the crowd is hard to duplicate. For all of these artists, I only thought they were “just OK” until I saw them live. Live shows can change a lot of how you view a band.

^ You’re probably right. However, my feeling is, having not ever seen U2 live, that Bono would probably throw a big hissy fit and have you kicked out of the concert if you threw a beer at him, whereas with Ween it just fuels their energy. I could see Buffett enjoying being covered in alcohol though.

just listen to the ‘at the cat’s cradle’ live album. it’s incredible. i never thought of myself as a ween fan but a couple people have told that i’m brown for liking this album.

Well, on a recommendation like this, I guess I have no choice. I’m most likely gonna go, but I want to do some research before I go. I hate going to a show and having no idea what is going on. Like, if I went to a Phish show and didn’t know anything about them beforehand, I probably wouldn’t get as much out of it. For example, I don’t know what you guys are talking about when you talk about “brown”. I need to get on it I guess.

^ The sound is brown. Just listen closely…you can hear it.

Believe it or not, he’d probably find a way to incorporate it into his act. He certainly likes to put on a show or act as a “showman” during some of the songs. I’ve seen these types of things like folks tossing things onstage or gals grabbing his leg as he runs by and he’s pretty good at improvising these things into his singing or whatever. I’ve never seen him look rattled. Dude’s a professional in every sense of the word. I wonder where this “Bono’s a jerk” stuff came from since I don’t remember him really acting like that in any news story or whatever. I guess the South Park guys have it right.
