Weird Al Yankovic--should I go?

Yeah, go.

Yes.

^^^Ever hear of Alan Sherman, Fone? I was introduced by some of my uncles, very much in the same realm (albeit 30 years earlier) as Mr. Weird.

^Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda, here I am at Camp Granada?

Sure. I was about twelve when Sherman’s first album was released, and all of us kids had to have a copy. Sherman was actually a folk singer who intertwined Jewish ethnic humor into his songs because he was making a living doing shows at the Catskill resorts in lower NY during the 50s and 60s.

Who was more like Wierd Al was a guy named Spike Jones who led a band called the City Slickers, and he would make fun of the popular music of the day in the 40s and 50s with silly lyrics and tons of sound effects throughout the performance.

I’ll seek out thie Spike Jones character, but I truly feel Sherman is close in style to Yankovic in that he brought new parody lyrics to known tunes, sans polka.

absolutely go. 15 years ago or so I went to Six Flags and Weird Al happened to be playing a free show there that night. It was pretty cool. He’s a great performer and if you appreciate what he does musically I don’t think you can’t go wrong here.

Don’t miss it, you’ll regret it. I was on Weird Al tour from '93-'97 and it was fucking sick.

I hear his show is great. I actually have a live video of him, and it testifies to what I’d heard. Lotsa bang for the buck w/Weird Al.

I have a bunch of his records. I love “Slime Creatures from Outer Space” and “Cable TV”, and of course lots of his parodies are fun.

Custy. Weird Al was never the same Post-Fat.

YEAH!! go bunk yourself, newb!!

but…to stay on topic…yes…you should go.

I’m going.

it’ll be a doozy of a time

So how was it?

haha. I didn’t end up going.

Fuck weird al.

Your loss.

Hank you tool!

I"m glad I didn’t go. Fuck Amish Paradise.

Fuck it.

don’t try steppin’ to Coolio’s groove.

haha i guess you had better things to do, but it prob wouldve been a fun thing to go.

ahhaaha BUMP this random stupid thread.

noice.

Another one rides the bus.

Living with a heeernia…OOOOWWWW!!!

Seriously, my thing with Weird Al is that he’s fun to hear, not because he’s good…it’s because the songs he covers are good. I’d rather see a cover band in a local bar then pay $30 to go to some amphitheater filled with nerds.
