Weirdest Phish Show Ever

Sorry if this is already a thread, but did you ever go to a show that was just plain weird? Werid covers, doing weird things on stage, the boys wearing weird clothes, having a completely different audicence?

Farm Aid 98! Thery had no soundcheck for just them so the versions of the songs i heard were very noticably differen’t. Plus the crowd was( how do i put this?) Unbreezy! Except for us kids that is!

Going to Lowell was wierd not for crazy antics but there were just so many firsts so all night I was trying to figure out ?whats this one?does it have a name and do I like it? (YES YES &YES) and Voters for choice Benefit?Phish, Politics, Gloria Steinam…WEIRD

Set TWO Roxy Atlanta 1993.

DAMN ODD BUT BEAUTIFUL. But very fvcking odd…

MMMMM "I wanna rock &Roll all night and party every day …Ladies and Gentelmen Mr. Gene Simmons!!!

I like Trey singing ‘IT’S MIKE’S SONG’ , ‘IT’S HIS SONG’ during…uh…well…erm…MIKE’S SONG! I also like Trey playing Tweezer riffs in every song throughout the set!

Yeah he just can’t loose that tweezer . My fav is when he’s sliding it into the Glide to sweet, and the Mikes is just insanity “Sing us your song Mike” Stash , Lizards solo’s Have Mercy, Kiss, MMGAMOIO, If not the weirdest show certainly one of the weirdest sets.

forgot the Kung

2: Wilson, Reba, Tweezer-> Walk Away-> Tweezer-> Glide-> Mike’s Song-> My Mind’s Got a Mind of its Own-> Kung-> I Am Hydrogen-> Weekapaug Groove-> Have Mercy-> Rock and Roll All Nite*-> Weekapaug Groove-> Fast Enough for You, Big Ball Jam, HYHU, Terrapin, Harry Hood, Tweezer Reprise

E: Sleeping Monkey

*KISS cover; with “Gene Simmons” (a.k.a. Jay Von Lehe).

I think the Big Birch show is slightly weirder than the roxy but that can be debated!

2-20-93 is indeed one of the weirdest Phish shows ever. Set II must be listened to in order to understand completely. I swear half the time Trey is playing an entirely different song from everyone else.

I agree with BigB. The Big Birch 94 show has to be the strangest phish show of all time. The Roxy is weird and impressive, but the Big Birch II continues to make heads scratch their heads in confusion and disbelief. This is the kind of creative playing that most bands aren’t even capable of conceiving, let alone executing.

07-13-94 Big Birch Concert Pavillion, Patterson, NY

2: Possum, Tweezer tease-> Cavern tease-> Wilson*-> Cavern-> NICU-> Tweezer#-> Julius^-> Big Black Furry Creature From Mars**-> Tweezer-> Mound-> Slave to the Traffic Light-> Suzy Greenberg%

*Played to the tune of “Cavern.” #With “Woody Woodpecker” tease. ^With “Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay” tease. **Played to tune of “Scent of a Mule.” %“Slave to the Traffic Light” jams inbetween verses

I’m with freebarraco that '95 Lowell show is fucked…maybe the best Reba ever, but other than that, people must have just been like “What in the fuck?!”…Two other really fucking weird one’s are the Summer Amsterdam '97 shows with all that “Back of the worm” nonsense…those shows are just crazy.

yeah any show that contains a lot of debuts is going to be “weird,” like the Lowell '95 show or the Dublin '97 show. The music is great and probably well played, but to the audience it is “weird.” “odd” perhaps even.

Thought I’d ad 2/24/03 in the mix. Just an all around strange mix of songs, Corinna, BB King. Interesting…interesting…

Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, NJ

Set I: Down with Disease, Corinne Corrina, Wolfman’s Brother > Limb by Limb, Everyday (I Have the Blues), The Thrill is Gone, Rock Me Baby
Set II: Halley’s Comet > Harry Hood > Heavy Things, Twist, All of These Dreams, Waves > Sample In A Jar > Chalk Dust Torture
Encore: Farmhouse
Show Notes: The last three songs of the first set were Phish concert debuts that featured a guest appearance by B.B. King

I love Bob Dylan’s Corrina Corrina. How is the Phish version? Is it even the same song??

Not the same!

As far as pure silliness 2/20 and 7/13 take the cake. One that a lot of people aren’t aware of is 4-9-93 Set II, which also has some very silly Phish. 7-12-96 is a weird show. The band was super sloppy that night, probably from puffing so much dank. 8-14-04 was also very weird. I can’t think of another show where Trey was so blatently f’d up on stage…just plain weird. :frowning:

Oh yeah the 4 comeback shows were pretty weird as well, especially when Trey f’d up the beginning of YEM and had to start over…yikes! :o Those shows left a lot to be desired…

you said it! it seemed more like four three hour soundchecks than actual shows.

8.14.04 was really weird, but not in a good way. Every song after the first set seemed to get a little worse, even though the drowned jam did have a few cool sections. Not to mention the song selection----FRIDAY set closer! I think that was trey’s way of saying, “sorry, hopefully tomorrow will be a little better”

As a side note, I remember hearing the guy on the Bunny the next morning saying how last night was “amazing” and so forth—I just couldn’t believe he would say that
