If Melt is out… I demand a recount!
I’m sure if Florida recounts enough times, we can get whatever results we want.
I had to vote for some SOAM, and since I didn’t vote for Mule, I felt compelled to vote for Melt. This is a great matchup. I really could have gone either way on this one for different reasons, but decided to vote for Melt because I’ve been re-listening to Junta lately and really love that whole first disk of songs.
Melt on Junta?
^definitely on something this morning.
I always merge SOAMelt, Foam, and Dinner and A Movie in my mind because their structures seem similar to me.
Good thing you guys were paying attention.
This was tougher than Cletus’s toenails, but my gut reaction was SOAMElt. IMO summer '93 Melts > '97 Tubes. Call my crazy, but…
Wow…what a close one. I just voted for SOAM which makes the poll currently tied at 14-14. Split is just on a different level, especially if they break out the horn section.
Doing something really out of character here for myself … and I’m going for Tube, based on the fact that I never really liked Melt live. It’s got more to it than Tube does, what with the insane instrumentation (all of it - verses, chorus, opening riff, odd-time jam, atonal fugue before the a capella part … god that’s a lot of sh!t in one tune). But I just flat like Tube more overall … and only because Melt tends to deflate sets for me … I don’t really enjoy it live so much.
Tube it is.
I got an ache in my left ear.
I felt the twinge but I still could hear.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Split is losing by three votes!!
Blasphemy!
No shit, man. This is just crazy. Tube? Yeah, it’s alright, but there’s so little to it. SOAM is a masterpiece.
I want to puke.
Melt is fairly standard where Tube is a crowd pleaser. Teaser with a pleaser.
Still, I voted for Melt.
What a battle! I went Melt. More filthy.
I like Tube alot . But Melt is one of those tunes that so few bands can do. It is a defining Phish Masterpiece. Its got the unique composition, quirky lyrics and raging jam, all in one. Tube could be played by so many of the funk-fusion bands that have been spawned by the jamband movement. But they prolly couldnt touch Melt on their best day.
COME ON SOAMELT!!!
some more people better vote melt, shit is so much more of what Phish is about than Tube, the whole breakdown of the song into the breath deep in a steam dream, and plunge below the water lines, down, down, down, down, melt, split open and melt mother fuckers, somebody better get on this, vote melt now
do it, melt, split open and melt
I don’t get it…it seems like most of the people that posted anything in this thread voted for Melt, but it’s still losing.
I voted for Tube, sure Melt is a great song, and it is technically difficult. I guess I just never got into the great August '93 versions as much as I dug the Late '97 versions of Tube. I really like how you can listen to an early Tube which lasts 3 and a half minutes, and proceed to voyage into a 12 mintue Tube. To me, that is what Phish is about. Who would have thunk that a song like Tube could go where it went. After all, it was (IMO) the song that defined Fall '97.
Yeah, I wish Melt was short and easy for years too!
I’m not saying that, I’m just saying that Tube really exemplified what Phish was capable of, in terms of taking a song and turning it into something totally different, but then again I’m sure you knew what I meant.
Finally I can express my love for Tube! (although I love SOAMelt)
me loves me some Tube more!! heheh
