What a bad morning!

I was driving to the store this morning to get some milk for me and my daughter. I had my daughter with me and everything seemed to going great. I got to area where the speed limit is 45 MPH. I slowed down and was going 45MPH, this was a 2 line road, and other cars where next to me as well. Well, I pass a State Highway Partol car driving the other way,and he turns on his lights. I look down and yes, I am going 45MPH so, I am thinking most be someone else. Well, quickly he turned around and was right on my tail. So, I figure, I better pull over. I do and he tells me I was going 60 MHP!! I was like what!?? Yes, I got you on my radar at 60MHP. I just shook my head and handed him my license and crap.

Is it possible he got someone else who was driving around me with his radar? I don’t know what to do? I guess just pay the fine and move on? Or is it worth fighting with a lawyer? Or do I have no case ?

Btw, I am from Ohio if that helps anyone

Thoughts???

How much is the ticket?

sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me.

further proof that law enforcement is unnecessary (sorta sarcasm)

I don’t know yet. I have to call around Tuesday to see, he didn’t check the box that I needed to attend court so, I’ll am just call and see.

challenge it in court he was facing towards you and definitely got a wrong reading

yup, appeal that shit. it’s always worth a try and at the very least they will most likely reduce the charge to something even more menial and time-wasting.

Anarcho-communism for the win!!

If I didn’t have my daughter with me, I think I would have went crazy on the cop. I was so freaking mad when he told I was going 60 MPH. Sadly, my daughter is only 18 months so it’s not like she could be a witness for me in court or anything.

I did notice this weekend, extra cops around the main roads for the holidays. And when I was coming back from getting the milk, that cop had another person pulled over as well. It was like it was a speed trap of sort.

I currently have 4 points on my license. One that is back from October 2006, the other is from April 2007. Does anyone know the ruling on points in Ohio?

I pulled up my record today on Ohio DMV site.

Ok, I called and it’s going to be $85.00 If I do decide to fight it in court, the lawyer could cost me $300-$500 plus court costs. I am thinking it maybe just better to just pay the darn ticket and move on. >:(

Maybe he stopped me cause I have a Phish sticker on my car? " Dirty hippie band, I’ll show him who’s boss!, pull over you dirty hippie!’’

go to court and tell them you’ll pay the fine but you dont want the points. sometimes theyll put you on advisement and if you dont get another ticket for awhile they dont put the points on yer license.

if the cop says he has you going a certain speed and you disagree arent you allowed to look at the radar to confirm his reading? maybe not.

anyways…id still go to court.

i didnt have a lawyer when i went in to traffic court.

Just plead it out with the clerk before court, bow your head and walk away with your tail between your legs. It’s all a sham and a game, but if you get it in your head to fight for your “rights”, it will cost you more in the end. You have to weigh your options, (five pounds, six pounds, seven pounds…sorry) and fight the battles that are meaningful and important. This just doesn’t seem to be one of them.

Talk to the clerk about what you can do about keeping the points off, and they typically help you out as long as you seem reasonable and agreeable to them and their “position”. These guys just what to clean up their paperwork, and if you help them do that by paying, they generally will help you out. Kick up the dough, and get the hell out of there.

You usually don’t want to get involved with municiple court judges. Most that I’ve seen are really egotistical and tempermental, and if you want to fight without having a lawyer speak for you, they can be downright nasty and vindictive. So be polite to him, and get out with few scars.

Cut your losses, lose the skirmish to be stronger to fight another battle when you really need to.

I had some bullshit like this happen once. I was told I was doing 30 in a 15 school zone. All the cars around me were going the exact same speed and I had cars in front of me, behind me, and beside me, I got pulled over. I had some herb on me at the time so I decided not to argue. Then I went to court, the judge took one look at me and said “full fine” and then slammed the thing. Ghey.

^By the way. It was $175 for speeding in a school zone, so if you end up having to pay your ticket, just be glad it wasn’t a school zone.
