What are mike shows like?

i just bought myself a ticket to see mike in brooklyn and im very excited! i was wondering for those who have seen mike, what the shows are like. i saw him at vibes last year but they only played a couple songs. i was kinda wondering things like… is there a lot of energy? how long does the band jam, in comparison to phish? how are the other players? (i know scott murawski is awesome). and just things like that. just curious as to what to expect at a mike show…

also… are there crazy dancers that hang from hoops on the ceiling like in that video!?

i was front row at the mike gordon variety show at park west in chicago last september where they had the hoops and stuff. it was like a circus, only cooler. mike came out in a white suit that had long coat tails and a red shirt. the groove was great. one of my favorite shows.

Hey Jemp, you know of any places where I can download any audio/video of that show?
I was the guy that went up on stage and did the “dog jam” with Mike, but I gots nothing to remember this show.

Yes, Mike really puts on a SOLID rock concert. I saw him on his first tour. LOVED IT!

I saw him in Omaha last August, but out of nowhere I got dosed out of my gourd a few songs into the show, so I’m not the best source.

If you’re big on Mike’s bomb-dropping style in the first place, you’ll definitely have a good time. They do jam, even though I don’t always feel the allegedly strong Murawski/Gordon connection. And I felt like the drummer was the weakest link. The keyboard player is awesome, for sure.

saw Mike & Leo in Ann Arbor a few years back. it was pleasingly pleasant.

on a side note, it was also pleasantly pleasing.

Whoahey, you’re from around here! Land of Vernors indeed, I had no idea. Not so funny story - I was at that Mike & Leo show too, but I came in over an hour late because Phish.com listed an incorrect start time for the show. We came in and sat down and it was obvious everyone else had been there a while, and then 20 minutes later they thanked everyone and left. I missed almost the whole show b/c of some dumbass webmaster at Phish.com (and because I trusted my brother’s sources… never again). :frowning:

ha no way, you were a solid barker. i only know of videos up on youtube of some of the crazier stuff that happened. I was standing just to the right of you i think then, in front of the guitarist

been to a few mike shows… just don’t go into it expecting phish and you will have a good time…

The Inside In Tour was one of the greatest shows I have ever witnessed. A tap dancer for percussion for Christ’s Sake!

BWAHA!

i was right up front for the last show he did in charlotte. the bridge opened. they were pretty good too. i was standing next to this guy who was painting a picture the whole time. that was pretty neat to watch him paint along with the music. they did a mini acoustic set too.

like moma dave said, it’s a solid rock concert. lots of jamming and lots of mike. if you’re a big mike fan like myself you’ll have a great time for sure. i hope i can make it to one, maybe asheville or raleigh but since it’s during the week i don’t know.

I went to the Charleston show last August…I was literally next to one of the speakers. It took at least a day for the bass thumping in my body to go away…it was fucking awesome. The show was great too. I loves me some Mike.

Still wish i could find a copy of that show. Sugarmegs doesn’t even have it to stream.

same here. i thought it would be circulating by now. did you see tapers there?

^

I know I saw a taper, but definitely nothing out there. There’s some good video on youtube from someone, but that is all I can find. I’ve done a ton of searching too. I even asked the person who shot the youtube clips if they have seen any recordings and they hadn’t.

Its killing me not to be able to listen again. I’m going to forget soon!

I can’t wait to catch him at the Park West in Chicago, I really think he will be having a blast this Tour in between Phish…I feel Gordo is at his best when he is immersed in various projects, i really think his Solo stuff will give him a fresh perspective when he gets back to Phish for Fall/Winter Tour…

The All Good show this past Summer was grand.

The Cleveland show is unfortunately a bit of a fuzzy memory.

Totally agree.

That said, the only thing I’d rather see than a Mike show is a Phish show.

Over Trey’s early “big band” incarnations?

I saw mike once with Leo Kottke, and it was really chill. I am sure you are all tired of hearing this but, I actually met Mike that that show.

Then I saw him with ramble dove, and it was like…
