It all works for me. If Trey is really raging something I tend to work out harder, it just inspired me. I hope to some day have arms as powerful as Trey’s.
on a MTB ride saturday, i found that my speed went up considerably when the red rocks YEM came on…same thing happened with a good version of sneakin’ sally.
The long ones. Gotta be up beat too. YEM, Taste, PYITE, Mikes --> Simple. I love that with Phish, I can listen to three songs and i’ve been running 30 minutes already.
I find that the highs and lows in Phish tunes are good for keeping up momentum…as soon as I feel that I’m starting to lose momentum, they’ll go into some awesome jam and I’ll pick up the pace again.
Love the sneakin’ sally suggestion!!
I had Weekopaugh on the playlist yesterday, that’s another good one!
^yeaa, i completely know what you mean…the highs and lows are amazing…I find a lot of summer 09 shit is really good for running cuz its so high energy…darien antelope, darien center jam, camden sand, burgettstown wolfmans, shoreline disease…all on my running playlist, cant forget the 2000 PNC Holmdel Gin too
I’ve actually been working out lately, but I’ve only worked out to one Phish song, and that’s the SPAC '04 Piper. It’s unreal. Beyond that, I typically skip Phish and listen to metal or punk music. I’m pondering Halloween '96 for tonight, though, unless I just put on the new Between The Buried And Me album again.
Totally agree with the 2009 stuff. I’ve been listening to antelope from Camden a lot, but I’ll definitely throw the Darien version into the mix too.
Today, I listened to Hamptons 09: Back on the Train, Runaway Jim, PYITE, Gumbo.
The thing with Phish, is that in a 30-40 minute run, I can usually only get in about 4-5 songs, whereas when I listen to other music, I can listen to a lot more songs in that time frame.
Gotta add some Funky B1tch to the mix too!!
Wow, Piper?! Really?? I’ll have to give it a listen, but I can’t imagine Piper working for me as a good working out song.
I never listened to Phish for workout music until about a month ago, and now I can’t get enough. I’m always trying to find the perfect playlist for a good run.
One of my favorite CD’s for non-Phish workout music is Chemical Brothers - “Galvanize” because it’s so high energy…but that doesn’t really fall into your punk/metal genres either, it’s more like electronic/techno I guess.
A good running song is the Ghost from 11/17/97. It gets me jacked every time, and the beat is solid and relatively un-changing.
I also enjoy the Sand from Big Cypress. It’s so long, and so simple that it locks your body into a groove that helps you keep going like a well-oiled machine. Really anything that’s long and groove-oriented with a solid backbeat from fish and mike.
For lifting, listen to Oysterhead. You’ll appreciate me telling you about it.
phish is so great to listen to while working out because they build up climaxes so well - it’s so motivating.
a good stash always works for me
obviously run like an antelope
mike’s song
the moma dance makes me really happy and gives me a lot of energy so i forget that i’m tired
chalkdust
character zero and 2001 both build up really well
