What ELSE are you listening to now?

Amen. I would also say that about Tool.

Pretty far out album. Maybe her trippiest record of all. And I think it gets kind of overlooked, falling between the more famous Hejira and Mingus. I have the record, even though I shoved the CD back cover in here. It’s a two record set … my friend Brian was just raving about record one, while I’ve always really been into sides 3 & 4.

10/14/83 Hartford Civic Center

Trey was in attendance. “There was one Dead show I saw,” Anastasio says as we stop at a light. “One show I’d rank as one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen.” He squints into the distance, remembering. “It was at Hartford Civic Center, 1982 or '83,” he continues. “And it was just a concert, you know? It wasn’t about the vibe; it wasn’t about the scene. I wasn’t hanging out with my friends and stuff. I was just standing there, alone. Just listening to the music.” Wow. And you weren’t on acid or anything. “Oh, no. I was.”

Jerry Garcia’s melodic phrasing impresses me more with every show I hear. Don’t ignore Mickey here either. Cool xylophone work.

I’ve been trying to listen to more old skool hip hop lately, but KRS ONE is the only one that really speaks to me.

Oh, nice. How is that? I’ve been meaning to listen to that one.

It’s good, not my favorite. Nice to hear a studio version of Steep Grade, Sharp Curve.
