You know I never ever listen to this album because I played the fuck out of it when it first came out in high school that I just never think to listen to it. But man is this a great album, especially on a Sunday morning whilst sipping a tasty cappuccino and kickin it in the robe.

Ironically, Friday Afternoons in the Universe is a great Sunday morning album.

Always come back to my first Elton John experience.

I’ve actually never heard the regular Let It Be album.

I’ve also been listening to a lot of MMW these past few days. I had one of those “Why the eff don’t I listen to this band more often?” moments. Probably gonna listen to them again today.

Been on a country kick, also been listening to damn near every Hank Williams III albums.

My buddy got the new Sr. box set, 75 15-minute Mother’s Best Recordings. Phenomenal.

yeah, i watched the “wild and wonderful whites of west virginia” had a lot of HW III. got into him then got on the country bit. definitely enjoy the hell rasing antics of the third a little more.

Yep, he puts on an amazing show, too. Ass Jack can be a bit much, but on Halloween in Nashville it was fitting.

Death Magnetic, Guitar Hero mix!

Kind of a tragedy, the Death Magnetic release IMO. Musically it’s a return to form in a way - lots o fast drumming, everything in Eminor  … but the writing kinda sucks. Metallica’s “Time Turns Elastic” but for an entire record. I guess my main beef is the lyrics, which I’ve mainly tried hard to not hear. But they’re RIGHT IN THE SONGS!! I loved old Metallica lyrics. They forgot how to write great words by the time they got around to Load.

But even more tragic than the failure to meet my unrealistic and selfish expectations  is the mastering job they did on this album. I bought the vinyl thinking I’d get a better mastering job, but nope. Turns out the Guitar Hero edition of the recording is NOT compressed to the f*ckin wall. I forget how I got this. If you like this album and hate the sound quality, seek this out. Or maybe bug me for it.

The whole album (the official release I mean) second for second, is at one constant volume: loud as possible. No volume dynamic at all, and everything (even the drums) is just a little bit distorted.

There was such a huge outcry from the fan base about it that Lars even publicly defended the mastering, saying something like “that’s how we make records these days.”
:unamused:

I’m often totally amazed at Phish’s live recordings. They must have some badass compressors or some sh!t cuz there’s volume dynamics, there’s no distortion … but they’re still plenty loud. Metallica, call Phish. Maybe they’ll let you borrow Tom too.

Been in a huge funk mood lately.

Lettuce - Rage!
The New Mastersounds - Ten Years On
Parliament - The Gold Album
The Meters - The Meters
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Freaky Styley
Herbie Hancock - Headhunters
James Brown - The Payback

Just to name a few.

Well I just put in Phish Amherst second night 2010 again … but that’s not ELSE.

It’s been a lot of Metallica … I just posted all about Death Magnetic a few posts ago. Today I polished off the Reload album and the first third or so of the Garage Inc. collection.

Metallica either fascinates me or bores me silly, depending on the stars or something, I don’t know.
