That was The Mars Volta’s “Amputechture”. You should go see them Saturday in Chicago.

I’m all for this. Sometimes I can right-click the picture and the band or album name is in the URL but not always.
No album today but I caught some of the Crossroad 2010 concert on PBS and caught some extra juicy stuff with Winwood and Clapton. Always nice when Clapton reminds us that he’s still God. And it’s funny how Trey was stealing Clapton’s look…is it possible Clapton is stealing Trey’s look circa 1995? Or perhaps he just stealing his own look back from the 60’s.

I’ve been listening to this a lot lately. Actually, I think I’m pretty addicted to it. I practically just started getting into TMBG. Such great songwriters. I’ve also listened to Flood a few times, which I also love. I’ve also listened to Lincoln but it hasn’t quite sat completely right with me yet. Can’t wait to see them on the 30th!
that’s chris thile on the right end, yeah? i love(d) nickel creek… i should check this out, thanks ![]()
Yes indeed Thile. Amazing band.
(better than nickle creek ::shock:
i can see that, although i haven’t heard Punch yet. i think NC were only starting to scratch the surface of their creativity when they parted ways…
although i saw them just once in Ann Arbor (2004?) and they did The Fox > Watermelon Man > Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag > Watermelon Man > The Fox, so that was pretty fucking awesome

They just released a brand new “grown-up” album called Join Us. Just sinking my teeth in now, and so far it’s great. Such prolific & talented writers.

Gotta say I’m a big B-52’s fan and this little two-disc compilation is a must-have if you’re interested in a nice greatest hits album that doesn’t miss anything.
I’m always impressed by the guitarist on these songs. It’s mostly just rhythm guitar but they’re constantly playing and basically keep the beat going in many of these songs…more so than the drums and bass even. The first guitarist died so the drummer switched over to guitar in the 80’s and they both sound great. Just not a lot of bands out there that have duplicated this sound.

Old Heads is fun because Byrne sings in his “higher pitched voice” a lot more on the older stuff. Big fan of “Pulled Up” which is the last song on the album. Great, fun to sing and funny at the same time.
Been listening to Chicago’s Greatest Hits lately. I don’t have an official album cover because it doesn’t have one! There’s a number of bands who I wanted a greatest hits for but in looking at their GH albums, many of them sucked or had omissions so Chicago is one of those bands where I could make my own. I could add in songs I like and also leave out songs that are considered hits but I don’t particularly like (Color My World being one).
One thing I noticed is how good the drumming is on the old-school jazzy tracks…really nice work. I also have a mix of some of the classic Cetera power ballads which I’m a sucker for because Peter has such a sweet voice. I’m kind of rediscovering Hard to Say I’m Sorry because it has that super-sweet up-tempo ending to it for the final two minutes. It always annoys me to hear that song on the radio since they always cut it out. That stuff should be illegal.
Any other songs that you love but just drive you nuts to hear on the radio? My favorite are those modern songs that have one part with a rap verse so all of those “No rap!” stations still want to play the song and always cut those out…some of those songs sound ridiculous without it.
^ I recommend this if you don’t have it.

That album is loaded. Beginnings and their cover of I’m a Man rule.
