Nightswimming is one of my favorite songs. And I’m not even that big of an REM fan.
Michael Stipe’s voice on that track sounds so fragile,…if that makes sense. ![]()
Agreed.

on Sirius.
I is addicted.

Easily my least favorite ZZ Top album. But the thing is, I bought the ‘ZZ Top 6-Pack’ when I got into them, as a quick way to grab their old stuff. Well, that multi-disc set is a loser, because all the drum tracks have tons of added drum effects in a ridiculous attempt to capitalize on the success of Eliminator & Afterburner.
In short, these CDs sound like shit, and I’ve finally decided to transfer my vinyl for five of those six albums (I think one of them is not changed; El Loco.) … I’m gonna delete my old mp3s. But I’m gonna keep that 6-pack just to sneer at.
I never took these guys all that seriously until they really made me laugh (with them rather than at them).

Well, speaking of, I finally got ahold of this and had a listen this weekend, mostly because I saw them live on Saturday night. Had to give myself a crash course on the new album and I liked it quite a bit…lots of really catchy beats on that album.
The live show was equally fun and weird all at once. The crowds always get me since it looks like a World of Warcraft convention as opposed to a concert. On an added geeky bonus, the guy who wrote Still Alive from Portal was the opener. Either way, TMBG is always a good time live.

MAIDEN!! Possibly my favorite album from them. Excellent stuff. Infinite Dreams, Can I Play With Madness, the title track, The Clairvoyant…all awesome tunes.
^its great seeing another iron maiden fan i catch some crap listening to them.
^Who the heck would give you crap for listening to Maiden? They’re awesome and even among jamband circles they should be able to appreciate the huge compositions that these guys wrote. Bands like Maiden and early Metallica don’t seem to get the appreciation for what amazing song-writers these guys were…constantly putting out these multi-part epics. Maiden seems to be the very best at that for me.
And if they still give you crap just start screaming lyrics from Number of the Beast and start waving the devil horns. “Hell and fire was spawned to be released!!!”
That’s exactly what happens to me when I give people crap about Maiden. Swear to God, I have a couple buddies who really do respond to the mere mention of Iron Maiden with unapologetic random passionate yelling in rhyme.
I don’t actually give anyone crap though, I just haven’t been won over by teh Maiden, to date.
I’m listening to:

Part one of The Flaming Lips’ new 6-hour song, I Found a Star on the Ground:
I’m about to give this album a first listen:

Seen Enough (Stills)
I lost my innocence over intolerance
All the indignities heaped on the black man
We went to church they all prayed for the white man
The cops and the preachers
Were most of 'em in the Klan
What’s a kid s’posed to think when the adults
Are all such hypocrites impossibly smug
I have seen enough
I have seen enough of this
Had enough
Quite enough, I swear
The next generation, the woodstock nation
A little bit flaky, but no hesitation
Stop the war, it wasn’t worth dyin’ for
The paranoia of the cold warriors
Arrogant old men with domino theories
Fractured fairy tales tryin’ to kill me
I have seen enough
I have seen enough of this
I have read enough
History to see right through this
You got outcast upset
People you never met
Locked in the basement
Hot-wired to the net
Isolated, infuriated
The punchline to the joke
Is how they are gonna smoke
Every last stuck-up snob ever dissed them
Look in their eyes how could you miss them
Ain’t you seen enough
I have seen enough of this
I’ve had quite enough
Seen enough
We got dead-eyed, dead drunk
Dead stupid cyberpunks
Fed-up killer geeks
Gigabyte meth freaks
Home alone in a world of their own
Up all night in the thick of the fight
Fantasy combat, veteran psychos
Removed from reality by silicon diodes
Seen enough
I have seen enough of this
Have you read enough
So, you don’t know nothin’ about it
You got powerbook potentates
Pointedly obviate
Every opinion
They have about anything
Even if they don’t know shit
Stay in the limelight
Got your own website
Got all the answers, ain’t got a lick of sense
Practicing psychiatry without a license
Ain’t you seen enough
Had enough of this
I have had enough
Ain’t it bad enough for you yet
So you got overfed
Talking heads on television
Ignoring the obvious with pained expressions
Ask the ones that sell the damn guns
By the truckload every day
Fast as they can make 'em
What’s a kid s’posed to think
When the adults
Refuse all accountability
When they fuck up
Ain’t you seen enough
Ain’t you had enough of this
Goddam tired enough
Have we done enough about this
I have seen enough
Not a bad album of music so far. I’m only up to Seen Enough where Steven Stills is consistent with his ability to put together interesting rhythms and melodies that are often diminished by lyrics that only slightly above sermonizing tripe. It’s tough to agree with the cultural and moral sentiments of a person that most people in the business don’t like because of a disproportionate ego.
Personality aside, he’s a great songwriter and performer (except maybe when I saw him fall off a stool drunk as hell in the middle of a solo performance of Black Queen at MSG). I only wish I had a fraction of his talent.
The jury’s still out in my head on Stephen Stills. I’ve been a casual fan of CSN & sometimes Y since around 1987 I guess. My brothers and I learned lots of their early stuff in our teens. But I have heard that kinda thing about him, and I heard him do an in-the-studio radio performance thing where he absolutely gave off a vibe I didn’t particularly enjoy.
Right now it’s

Has anyone heard of this new super group Super Heavy?
consisting of Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and A. R. Rahman.

Pretty good. And Joss Stone is a fox.

So dig this band. A good bud of mine turned me on to them recently. Like to know what you all think.

^I thought Ben killed them off? What’s going on here?

Yes, I go from Iron Maiden to Ultimate Manilow. Say what you want but the dude writes catchy stuff…I can’t help but sing along and bob my head. I’m also a big fan of how his songs build and build to where it’s an generic slow tune at the start and by the end the full orchestra, choir and horn section are bellowing as Barry’s cranking out the chorus.
One of my favorite examples of this is “Could it Be Magic.” It’s already a rarity for a Manilow song with a length of 6:47 but it has a sweet piano intro and outro and just builds like crazy as the song continues on.
Here’s the audio of it. If you’re comfortable enough about your own manliness, check it out. ![]()

^werd. I was reading this thread today, on another forum on Floyd, favorite Floyd album or whatever. Everyone’s all “the Wall’s bitchy, Piper rulz, Echoes on Meddle makes me wet-choes in the middle”, shit like that, I’m all “hey fuck you, the Wall rulz, Syd’s genius is not quite, but WYWH might take the gold,” when off comes superstar dweebface nerb-dank doorwall with his nonchalant ‘Animals for me, love that record’ or whatever the hell that guy said. F’ing doorwall. I forgot about Animals.
^^Now that you’ve mentioned it, when I think I need a Floyd fix, I typically think first of WYWH, and then Animals. Seldom do I look for the studio versions of Dark Side or the Wall.
Echoes is definitely a sentimental favorite, although their music and my taste in music has soared beyond a need to hear it often. But there was a time when the second side of the Meddle LP was glued to my turntable.
It was really nice since the whole second side of the record was Echoes and nothing else. I can still envision the pale yellow and green Harvest label on that disk, a musical friend through my early twenties, when questions were much more important than answers.
I get burnt on Floyd easily, but not Animals. I don’t like The Wall. Fucking doorwall indeed… ![]()
