What ELSE are you listening to now?

^ a little personal story about Naked… From the time that I first joined Marie and her brood to somewhere late in eighties to early nineties, I pretty much had forsaken my love for music, and not bought any music, or sound systems, or anything even slightly related for almost ten years. I pretty much dedicated every resource to the family, finding personal reward in that.

In 88 I had just been able to buy my first new new car, a shitbag little Hyundai Exel, with all of 97Hp, a crappy little manual transmission, but with a cassette player that worked. One of the first new cassettes that I bought to begin what has since become 25 year morning pleasure of listening to a blasting sound system while driving to work, was Naked. I bought it after hearing Nothing But Flowers on the radio. It was my first Talking Heads album as well.

Had many happy mornings driving to work because of this album.

This is excellent.

Awesome story. It also blows me away that Nothing But Flowers was ever played on the radio…I must have listened to the wrong stations then. Of course I just listened to what my brother did at that time and we were into metal so go figure.

I also have that ritual but it’s for driving home as I like to listen to a few of the morning shows on the drive in. Nothing makes a commute go faster than listen to some music you enjoy. I recommend it to anyone with a long commute.

Check this bad boy out. The band rocks the socks off this thing and Ann Wilson sounds faaaaantastic. Holy frickin crap she sounds good.

Gotta love the “false ending” on live songs too.

Rock superstar, Maurice Ravel.

LaValse and Bolero.

yeeeeeeha!

I just shoved all my Floyd on shuffle. I’m not feeling 100% so this is perfectly mellow.

There’s a guy on Yesfans who despises Floyd, insists they’re completely worthless at every opportunity. I think he clearly has not smoked enough pot.
:eh:

I feel like a total failure for not realizing that this band exists. I saw Tedeschi open for the Allmans once and was really impressed.

Has a few truly strange songs on it but I’m always impressed by the product values and I like how they went with some longer songs. This album won’t turn anyone towards Air but it’s always good to cool down.

Silence…

Alright…I know iTunes is all the rage these days, but do any of you use Zune? I mean this service is pretty unbelievable. $10 a month for basically every album ever by everybody. Sure, maybe it’s missing some big one’s (the Beatles, Zappa), and some more “obscure ones” (String Cheese, Spacemen 3), but man…there is a lot of music on there. All of Prince’s albums, for example (I have no idea how they got the rights to do that). Every Dead album and live release ever. Hundreds of Dylan releases and every Miles Davis release ever. Every Phish album including The White Album (which I’m listening to for the first time right now), plus a ton of live releases including stuff from 3.0 tours and all the big one’s like Coral Sky and Hampton Comes Alive. There is just a ton of music on here and for $10 a month, I think it’s a crazy good deal. I don’t get how they are even getting away with this. Artists must just get pennies for letting their music get distributed like this.

Maybe this service is just similar to Last.Fm or Pandora or whatever, but those services aren’t available in Canada, so this is a fucking revelation to me. Plus it streams through the XBOX and I imagine any Microsoft product (windows phone, etc)…so I can stream it through my surround sound no problem. Anyway, you can just sign up for a 14 day trial anyway, and I’d totally recommend that people do that, because this has basically changed my music-listening-to-life. Just being able to listen to whatever whenever…I mean, I haven’t touched a c.d. in months, and I’ve got hundreds of 'em.

I have a Zune, and love the Pass.

Mmmmmm Pearl Jam. Loved the Pearl Jam20 movie.

Road with someone from the office to the Holiday luncheon and borrowed this from the collection of CDs he had in his console out of curiosity. Maybe this belongs in the MLB thread (although he’s retired now)

Am listening to it at the moment and it’s strictly elevator music. But I typically admire anyone who can play more than the G, C, and D chords that comprise the sum knowledge of guitar experience, and who can play center field for the Yankees as solidly as he did for many years without the notoriety and salary of some of the Yankee players.
