I’m partial to 5-17-1991 … and 12-31-92 will always have a warm place in my, well, one of the chambers of my heart. It’ll be gross, but if need be, that show can safely rest there.
I’m really partial to 12/31/93…this was the first live tape I ever heard as well, so maybe having it on repeat in the car forever had some effect on me. You can hear the crowd erupt in the middle of Guelah when Trey goes “is everybody in?” The auld lang syne > DWD jam is also outrageous.
Impossible to answer, so I won’t even try.
I can really only say that the 95 New year’s run is my favorite, partially because it was the first string of shows I heard. But they really do still blow me away, you can feel the electricity in the air the days leading up to new year’s eve.
Obviously this impossible to answer definitively, but I may have to go out on a limb and say Great Went as a whole is my favorite phish show ever. I know 2 3-set festival concerts technically doesn’t count as one Phish show, but I’d be fine with choosing either 8.16 or 8.17.
there’s something special about the way they sounded and the way they jammed that weekend. Some of the best stuff they ever did.
as far as early shows, I gotta go with 12.30 and 12.31.93 being my favorites of that era. so so very solid and fun to listen to.

what are phish?
thats impossible for me because at their peaks like august 93 or phall 97 they were pretty balanced, always churning out show after show that were awesome and of the same time period. Sure, some were average compared to others, some were outstanding, but there were usually several outstanding shows. it’s impossible to pick my favorite off of some TOURS much less the whole career…
