What show are you listening to right now?

11-08-98 UIC Pavilion, Chicago, IL

1: Taste, Carini*, Love Me, Ride Captain Ride, Fee, Paul and Silas, Roggae, Water in the Sky, Stash**, Cavern# (1:06)

2: Chalk Dust Torture, Meat, Rock and Roll##, Down With Disease^ -> Piper, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Run Like an Antelope (1:08)

E: Been Caught Stealing^^ (0:04)

*Trey added verse about the streaker from the 11-06-98 Prince Caspian. **With “Fikus” bass tease by Mike during the jam. #Trey messed up the lyrics while tapping guitar pedals, and laughed at his mistake through the rest of the verse. ##Velvet Underground cover (from Loaded). ^Ended with a 3/4 minute Ambient Jam (with a Baba O’Reily-type sequencing loop and spacey synths from the “Cold As Ice” intro). ^^With trampolines.

I wasn’t overly impressed with 11/8/98. I thought the highlight of the show was the “Stash.” It contained some sort of weird, hypnotic jam. Fishman’s beat was crazy.

Maybe 11/9/98 will cheer me up. That “Gin” is in my top-10.

Yeah.
I’m not a big fan of the UIC run.
Today’s Gin is hot, however.

I was amazed again at the AUD copy of the Quadrophenia performance … unreal, honestly.

The best part about it is that I just recently got familiar with that Who album, and I’d intentionally avoided the Phish version until I got that done first. So I finally heard the Phish version now, and it’s completely improved my feelings about Quadrophenia on the whole.

And the second-best part is, nobody will freakin’ tell me who the guest vocalist is on “Bell Boy”. I even tried asking the Internet.

Is it the Dude of Life?

Awesome!

It’s some guy!!

I thought I recognized him.

I believe it was crew member Leigh Fordham.

Soundcheck: Gingeng Sullivan, Mellow Mood, You Enjoy Myself

1: Carini*, Rift, Frankenstein, Mellow Mood, Wilson > Spock’s Brain > Bathtub Gin > Character Zero (1:02)

2: Dinner and a Movie, The Moma Dance > Also Sprach Zarathustra, Fluffhead > Meatstick**, Walk This Way#, Rapper’s Delight## > You Shook Me (All Night Long)### (1:00)

E: We’re An American Band#### (0:04)

This is my first listen to this show, and the audience is so intense and it’s great.

11-13-98 Cleveland State UniversityConvocation Center, Cleveland, OH

Soundcheck: 11-11-98 Set I Recording# -> If You Need a Fool, Dog Log, Buffalo Bill, Bittersweet Motel, Runaway Jim

1: Chalk Dust Torture, Wolfman’s Brother*, Roggae, Ginseng Sullivan, It’s Ice, Cars Trucks Buses, Farmhouse, Water in the Sky, Sloth, Run Like an Antelope** (1:18)

2: Down with Disease, Sample in a Jar, Dirt, Birds of a Feather, Meat (with delay loop > Space jam), Harry Hood (1:05)

E: Good Times Bad Times (0:05)

Even though this show seems a bit disjointed, there’s some good stuff within. “Forgetful” versions of Ginseng Sullivan and The Sloth are balanced by very good jams in Wolfman’s, It’s Ice, DWD, and obviously, Meat > Hood.

This show has some heavy - albeit average - hitters. Gorgeous and spacey intro to “YEM.” One of my favorite "Reba"s.

Love the encore.

11-14-98 The Crown, Cincinnati, OH

1: Funky Bitch, My Soul, Reba*, Bouncing Around the Room, Tweezer -> The Moma Dance, Sparkle, Character Zero (1:10)

2: David Bowie, Something, Piper, Golgi Apparatus, Guyute, Hold Your Head Up -> Sexual Healing** -> Hold Your Head Up, You Enjoy Myself, Julius, Hello My Baby (1:20)

E: So Lonely^ -> Tweezer Reprise

*With whistling. **With Fish (introduced by Trey as “Sammy Hagar the Horrible” and “The Horn Section” because of the horned viking helmet worn for the entire show) on vacuum. ^First time played (Police cover, from their album “Outlandos D’amour”).

In need of a little pick-me-up. Everyone is going home for Thanksgiving, skipping classes on Monday and Tuesday and I’m stuck here until Tuesday at 12:30, and I just really want to go home…

Listening to that LIOG DMB tune with Trey, it just puts a smile on my face.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, feel free to let me know!

^I’m Blue I’m Lonesome would be perfect as well…

Giving my first listen to this:

04/16/04 Thomas & Mack Center - Las Vegas, NV

1: Seven Below, Rock and Roll, Boogie On Reggae Woman, Back on the Train -> Possum, Strange Design, Gumbo, Brian and Robert, Taste
2: Gotta Jibboo, Twist, Camel Walk > Wilson, HYHU > Love You > HYHU, Waves > Lifeboy, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Loving Cup
E: Harry Hood
Notes: Fenton Williams (Dave Matthews Band crew) was at the light board in place of Chris Kuroda. Toward the end of "Wilson," Trey teased "Little Drummer Boy." "Love You" featured the debut of Fish's Sonic Dress. The fabric of the dress is woven from audiotape taken from Fish's own collection, and Jon uses special tape-head gloves to "play" it. (Some said it sounded much like Fish playing a washboard under his dress.) For more information, see artist-creator Alyce Santoro's website.

Overall… Not as bad as I was expecting. Trey’s voice is obviously shot. And while the music is far from outstanding, it is better than I thought it would be. Twist has been the highlight thus far…

Yeah, I love that Twist, but I can’t really sit through any of the rest of that set. Although the Hood encore is decent.

11/22/97…it sucks…dont bother
