What show are you listening to right now?

Listening/relistening to every show Phish has played at the Gorge, and this is where I’m up to. The past bodes well for the future, I’d say…

Freaking, man. I’ve been listening to a lot of 2016 Phish, like a lot. Right now in the car I’m listening to 10/19/16 set two. But I started to get distracted by what they weren’t doin’, so had to reach back to scratch that itch man. Love me some early 90’s, so wicked bad dude.

ZIGGY’S
Winston-Salem , NC

SET 1: The Landlady > Runaway Jim, All Things Reconsidered, Foam, Sparkle, Stash, Fluffhead > Uncle Pen, NICU, David Bowie

SET 2: Buried Alive > The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > Suzy Greenberg, Poor Heart, Brother, The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday > Avenu Malkenu > The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday > My Friend, My Friend, The Lizards, Cavern > Cold as Ice > Cracklin’ Rosie > Cold as Ice, Possum

ENCORE: Sleeping Monkey, Chalk Dust Torture

ENCORE 2: Harpua

Finally starting up fall tour… why did it take me so long? This first set is quite enjoyable.

^That’s the one that pissed everyone off I think. Shitshow getting in and most people missed half the first set.

I just listened to all of Fall '97 recently.

I’m just starting Alpharetta night two.

Nashville night two, set two… wow. And encore.

Dudes were cheesin’ from the first night. FIRED UP for that 2nd set!

Giving Winter 2003 -> Summer a re-listen. Some gems in there.

12/29/94 Providence! 22nd anniversary.

I came here for the Llama and just stayed for the rest.

WALNUT CREEK AMPHITHEATER
Raleigh , NC

SET 1: Llama[1], Chalk Dust Torture, The Moma Dance, Yarmouth Road, Tube > Bouncing Around the Room, Maze, Waiting All Night, Lawn Boy, Devotion To a Dream, Wolfman’s Brother, Suzy Greenberg

SET 2: The Wedge, Golden Age > Reba > Mike’s Song > Ghost > No Quarter > Weekapaug Groove > First Tube

ENCORE: Farmhouse, Fire

[1] Performed in a slow funk style.
Llama was performed in a slow funk style. Weekapaug included No Quarter teases from Trey.

Popped it in this morning on my way to work. I pulled into work as Kung segued back into Stash.

So far, what I have heard has been terrific. That Maze is what I was looking for; there is a taste of Machine Gun Trey in there, but there is also a dash of Emerson-esque “Machine Gun” Page too! I love the Star Trek TOS Theme tease in It’s Ice. Kung has some DEG going on in it. This show has some serious meat on its bones.

^ Nice. Especially from the new box set. But you’re 9 days early.
EDIT: That is now the correct way to post setlists.

I often remember to listen to the Island Tour well after the 5th of April every year. At least I’m actually listening to one of the shows on the actual anniversary this year. And, holy shit, for the first time I realized that it’s hosemaster not horsemaster. Perhaps I should pay more attention. Kevin’s screen name makes so much more sense now. Everything makes so much more sense now. I have to sit down… Wait, I am sitting down.

The Baker’s Dozen

Specifically: Jam Filled, Powdered, Cinnamon, Double Chocolate, Jimmies, Lemon, Boston Crème, and Glazed

I find myself putting this show on fairly often. I know this show is kind of hit and miss with folks, well at least the 1st/3rd sets. Very spacey and trance like stuff going on here, esp the wolfaman’s.
I think most people would agree VU was one of the better Halloween covers, they really made it their own, more than most of the musical costumes.

10/31/98
THOMAS & MACK CENTER
Las Vegas, NV
SET 1: Axilla > Punch You In the Eye > Roggae, Birds of a Feather, Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley [1] -> Chalk Dust Torture[2] > Lawn Boy, Mike’s Song -> Frankie Says > Weekapaug Groove

SET 2: Who Loves the Sun?[3], Sweet Jane, Rock and Roll[3], Cool It Down[3], New Age[3], Head Held High[3], Lonesome Cowboy Bill > I Found a Reason[3], Train Round the Bend[3], Oh! Sweet Nuthin’[3]

SET 3: Wolfman’s Brother [4] -> Piper > Ghost

ENCORE: Sleeping Monkey > Tweezer Reprise

[1] No vocal jam.
[2] Unfinished.
[3] Phish debut.
[4] Fish on vacuum.
Sneakin’ Sally included a Super Bad tease from Trey and did not contain a vocal jam. Chalk Dust was unfinished. Mike’s Song included Simple teases. The second set “musical costume” was The Velvet Underground’s Loaded. All of the songs in the second set were Phish debuts, except for Sweet Jane and Lonesome Cowboy Bill (which hadn’t been played since June 10, 1995, or 268 shows). The long jam out of Wolfman’s included Makisupa, Lifeboy, and On Your Way Down teases and featured Fish on vacuum. The band left the stage during Ghost, as the sound of Trey’s delay loop ended the set. This show was webcast live and was officially released as Live Phish 16.

^I’ve still never heard that show man. Also I never listened to VU either, so I’m really blowin it regards to this show. Wasn’t there some type of controversy over the third set being short? Like, I seem to remember people speculating that Trey was upset or something. I don’t know.

I’m listening to the middle set of 12/31/94 sort of sporadically, and spinning the ALO vinyl a whole bunch this weekend. I’ve got renewed interest in 1994 now, and feel like I should grab official releases from that year, what am I waiting for. This AUD from 12/31 is fun but I love that crisp nuance you get w/ the official deal.

98 is the Halloween show that I listen to the most.

I didn’t really have a Phish guide when I first got into them, so when I bought this official release, I didn’t know the entire second set was a costume. I only vaguely knew who Lou Reed was, and had never even heard of The Velvet Underground. I was just stoked to see that there was an entire disc of tunes that I had never heard. (Forgive me, I was 15.) Phish introduced me to a whole new world of music.

No, you forgive me!

Friday 5/8/92
The Riviera Theatre, North Tonawanda, NY

SET 1: The Curtain > Cavern, Reba, Uncle Pen, It’s Ice, Eliza > Llama, Mound, All Things Reconsidered, Bouncing Around the Room > David Bowie [1], Memories [2]

SET 2: Wilson > My Sweet One, Stash, Magilla > Maze, You Enjoy Myself, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Chalk Dust Torture, Cold as Ice > Terrapin > Hold Your Head Up, Harry Hood, Golgi Apparatus

ENCORE: Big Black Furry Creature from Mars

[1] All Fall Down, Simpsons, and Random Note signals.
[2] Without microphones.
Bowie had All Fall Down, Simpsons, and Random Note signals. Memories was performed without microphones. BBFCFM contained a Brady Bunch theme tease from Mike.

I bought Live Phish Dayton 97 the other night. Mainly because I just couldn’t find a decent AUD. Holy shit it Sounds SO good. It’s been on repeat the better part of 72 hrs lol.

I’m sure most of you know, but it’s the thing to do:

ERVIN J. NUTTER CENTER, WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY
Dayton, OH
SET 1: AC/DC Bag -> Psycho Killer[1] -> Jesus Just Left Chicago, My Mind’s Got a Mind of its Own > It’s Ice -> Swept Away > Steep > It’s Ice > Theme From the Bottom , Tube -> Slave to the Traffic Light

SET 2: Timber Ho! > Wolfman’s Brother -> Boogie On Reggae Woman > Reba[2], Guyute > Possum

ENCORE: A Day in the Life

I put in the Clifford Ball DVDs to help me through the annual chore of putting lights on the Christmas tree. I I always enjoyed the Simple. The rest is pretty good too.

On Phish.net if you click on Shows and Phish Setlists and Setlist Options you get this:
(I’m pretty sure it would be more than two sets.)

01/32/2019
BOWIE MOON BASE
The Moon, Luna
Soundcheck: Space Oddity, Moonchild, Rocket Man, Destiny Unbound

SET 1: AC/DC Bag, No Men In No Man’s Land, Backwards Down the Number Line > Carini [1], My Mind’s Got a Mind of its Own -> McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, Wall of the Cave > Golgi Apparatus

SET 2: Piper > Twist > The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday > Avenu Malkenu > The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday, 2001 -> Boogie On Reggae Woman, 46 Days > Tweezer[2] -> Harry Hood

ENCORE: Life on Mars, Tweezer Reprise

[1] Lyrics changed to “Martini in a Frumpy Bed”
[2] Fish on Marimba Lumina
This show was webcast via Live Phish, albeit with horrible interplanetary lag. At least four people were sucked into a passing event horizon during 2001. Tweezer Reprise cut short due to space dust hail.

Well, I don’t know how far I’ll get but I’m starting 2017.
