What show are you listening to right now?

OK, I will have a bit of a drive today, actually right around the length of a Phish show.

So into my CD player will go…

1995-11-14!

Because I really haven’t had the time to listen to it all the way through in a sitting.

So pack it up and get me high Vern!

10-31-98 Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV

1: Axilla (I), Punch You in the Eye, Roggae, Birds of a Feather, Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley -> Chalk Dust Torture -> Lawn Boy, Mike’s Song* -> Frankie Says -> Weekapaug Groove (1:15)

the rest of this set is pretty blah imo, especially when compared with the previous night’s sets, but Sneakin Sally—>Chalkdust is worth many, many listens. Wowza.

I think I’ll listen to the Hampton '99 run today.

First up:

12-17-99 Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA

1: Piper, Meat, Sparkle, Gotta Jibboo, Punch You In The Eye, When the Circus Comes, Water in the Sky, Twist

2: Birds Of A Feather, The Moma Dance* > Bug, Jennifer Dances, Split Open and Melt, Character Zero

E: My Old Home Place, The Squirming Coil > Loving Cup

*With “Birds of a Feather” tease.

I must say, I’m almost through the “Bug” in that show and to be honest, absolutely nothing noteworthy has happened yet. This is an otherwise standard, average show. The first set may look good on paper, but nothing really stood out as fantastic or mindblowing.

If this show were to have a boxing match against 12/18, it would be like Apollo Creed vs. Ivan Drago, with Drago being 12/18.

3-6-92

In terms of 2-night stands in the same venue, if there’s a bigger discrepency in overall playing than there is between 12/17/99 and 12/18/99, I’d like to see it.

07-08-1994 & 07-09-1994
06-09-1995 & 06-10-1995
11-16-1997 & 11-17-1997
07-25-1999 & 07-26-1999
12-10-1999 & 12-11-1999
09-29-2000 & 09-30-2000
10-06-2000 & 10-07-2000

OH SNAP! HE JUST DIDNT!!!
j/k

augustus doesnt need the pharmers almanac. hes got it…IN HIS MIND!

and i totally agree with the 7-25/26-99. i kept waiting for the saving grace. it never came.

Personally, I don’t agree with some of those. But 10/6/00 and 10/7/00 I do. 10/7 blows 10/6 out of the water for me. As well as 12/11/99 and 12/10/99.

Also, I’m not sure if there was any “oh, snap!” involved.

I specifically asked for someone to mention 2 shows where there’s a huge discrepancy in the music, and augustus came through. I was actually hoping someone would point out examples. Particually anyone who has heard way more Phish than I have.

the only one of those that might be questionable, would be 9-29 & 9-30-2000.
9-30 actually had a much better setlist, but wasnt played nearly as well as 9-29.
it was gonna be hard for them to top the previous night’s energy and musicianship.

the same goes for 7-25 & 7-26-1999.
7-25 was the straight tit, but 7-26 was dog breath.
they busted out all the “heavy hitters” for 7-26, too (Gumbo, Gin, Stash, Wolfman’s, Piper, Disease & Split) but failed to deliver on ANY of those.

my opinion, glad you can see it as that.

Front-to-back, at least setlist-wise, looks like a pretty good show. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it, or heard anything from it. “Ya Mar” just kicked in. The BEST summer opener you can ask for, IMO.

06-23-00 Lakewood Amphitheatre, Atlanta, GA

1: Ya Mar, My Soul, Bathtub Gin, Heavy Things, Back on the Train, David Bowie, Cars Trucks Buses, Farmhouse

2: Rock & Roll > Jesus Just Left Chicago, Down with Disease > Twist, Contact > Makisupa Policeman*, Character Zero

E: Brian and Robert, Possum

*Keyword was “Tacky Keef.”

^you have appearantly been my inspiration recently. While perusing what to listen to this evening the same set popped out at me. My old maxell II once said, “Okay, that’s enough, try someone else, I’m tired tonight and I have a headache”. Thank Minerva for the digital age.

Just got done with the Bowie.

6-19-04, SPAC. LOVE this show. God, this is a top 5 of mine and will forever be there.

I’m on The Piper right now at 16:45…oh…it’s starting to pick up baby…yes…it’s starting!

7/29/98. I’m about 18 minutes into this gin and have a bit over half a hard on.

4/3/98 Roses Are Free, listening for the first time

FISHMAN is doing some amazing stuff at the 16 minute mark!
