What show are you listening to right now?

This 80’s DVD will just not leave my computer. I’ve been feeling a little under the weather today, and it has been snowing hard, so I just don’t feel like going anywhere. So I snuggle up with some tea, and pop on the first live Gamehendge…

#Trey teases “Mother” (Pink Floyd). *Band jams with a lightning storm, which eventually forces the set to end early. #With “I Am Hydrogen” teases.

On my way to work this morning, I listened to Clifford Ball Day One set one

8/16/96
1-ChalkDust, Bathtub, Ya Mar, ACDC Bag, Esther, Divided Sky, Halley’s, Bowie

These shows are the perfect start for somebody who comes to you looking to get into LivePhish. First, I havent come across a copy that’s not soundboard.

Second the playing is tight, and right on. The jams don’t go too out there, and some of my favorite versions of Phish classics come from this weekend. The second days second set run of Fluff/Antelope/Golgi/Slave smokes. Slave in particular maybe one of my all time favorite versions.

Can’t wait to go on my lunchbreak and listen to the first days second set.

1: Taste, Cities*, Horn -> Ain’t Love Funny** -> Limb By Limb -> I Don’t Care -> Run Like an Antelope

2: David Bowie, Ghost, Bye Bye Foot, Ginseng Sullivan, Cavern, Twist, Bouncing Around the Room, Julius

E: When the Circus Comes, Rocky Top

*Extended intro jam. **First time played (J.J. Cale cover, from his “Closer to You” album).

I’ve only gotten to I Don’t Care, but the boys just didn’t want to take a break!

I had a question about the “extended intro” for Cities, which is listed as “Jam” in the text file (it’s a separate track). Was this riff ever played elsewhere. I ask because I don’t believe that I have ever listened to this show, yet this intro or jam seems incredibly familiar. It’s kind of like a harmonized “Buried Alive” riff, extremely frenetic. Anyone else know what I’m talking 'bout?

^never heard that show, except for the Cities I think.

^^I agree that the Ball is probably the best starter for young fans. Nothing too intimidating, and great playing!

^Do you know where you might have heard the Cities? I ask because I wonder if this was filler on something, or maybe just a groove they found a couple times.

BTW, this was pgec3/Thread Killer’s choice from me for winning the March Madness pool, excellent choice!

Yep I think thelot put in on one of the discs he sent me as filler. Somebody should sendspace it though

^I’ll do it tonight (unless someone beats me to it!)

The Phish.net review:
6/11/94 Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison, CO (Charlie Dirksen)
Mike G. mentioned before the Fall 94 tour that 5/7/94 and this show were his personal favorites from the April-July tour. I don’t now if he STILL really likes these shows, but I think they are well above the norm. This Red Rocks show is more fun to my ears than even 8/20/93 (Judas!!!). The first set You Enjoy Myself is one of my favorite versions: Trey’s jamming is melodiously engaging and extremely thematic (teary-eyed, to be sure). The Stash to close the first isn’t bad, and the DWD jam segment is also quite bold (in the first). The second set opens with a fiery Also Sprach-> Antelope & Fluffhead, but the power doesn’t stop. The Scent, Split Open (!), Coil, Maze, Contact and Frankenstein that finish the set are all very well-played. This show is available on DatFM, since it was broadcasted… High quality copies should be available everywhere…

This is a stellar show, and the broadcast quality of the disks I have make it even more enjoyable because you really get to hear how great these guys were.

I do have a request, however. I can’t seem to find my second disk from this show. It contains the ASZ through the Coil of the second set. If anyone has the DatFM copy of this show and can get it to me, I would be forever grateful.

Not sure if that is the source you need, but that is definitely the show.

^thanks. have to wait till i get home. the network is stopping me from accessing this site

My Favorite set from 1999(Big Cypress doesnt count)

7/13/1999

Great Woods- Mansfield, MA

1-Nicu, Curtain>Halley’s->Roses->NO2, Lawnboy, Reba->Carini, Funky Bitch

I don’t think I’ve ever sat down and listened to this show all the way through. I don’t even remember anything about this 20 minute Character Zero. The composed section of Tweezer sounded a bit choppy to me, but the jam so far is going swimmingly.

11-26-97 Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, CT

1: Tweezer-> Sparkle, Gumbo, My Soul, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, Dirt, Split Open and Melt, The Horse-> Silent in the Morning, Taste

2: Character Zero*-> Also Sprach Zarathustra-> Cities-> Ya Mar-> Punch You in the Eye-> Prince Caspian, Poor Heart, Tweezer Reprise

E: Cavern*

*“Psycho Killer” (Talking Heads) tease. **With an older version of lyrics (“Turned the blade back on the bitch and dropped her in the dung”).

Whoa! I just saw this Will. Awesome.

Any way you could throw this disc in with the upcoming b&p you’re doing for me?

^^yeah never saw that before, is that being seeded anywhere, can i download this?
