Definately a gem that gets lost in all the fall 97 hoopla! The transition from 2001 to Cities is redic!
so you did 11.26–>12.13 a?
nice.
I wish…
I was in my first year of college then. ;D
Hartford, Philly, Rochester and MSG is what went down.
a
He just dropped her in the Dung!
Right after he turned the blade back on the bitch!
a
a pretty good sampling of fall '97 though. Hartford is quite unique and both of the Philly shows are solid…ahh I’m thinking of the intro to Bowie on 12.3 right now…
Rochester is also pretty unique.
It’s strange…I took a bus up to both Binghamton 12-14-95 and Rochester 12-11-97.
Both times I was seriously ill, complete with vomit and fever.
Both times they threw it down!
French bread pizza boats in '95 …mmmmmmmm…

^ from russo no doubt!
07-02-98 The Grey Hall - Freetown Christiana, Copenhagen, Denmark
1: Birds of a Feather, Cars Trucks Buses, Theme From the Bottom, Brian and Robert, Meat*, Fikus*, Shafty, Fluffhead, Ginseng Sullivan, Punch You in the Eye, Character Zero
2: Ghost -> Runaway Jim -> Prince Caspian, You Enjoy Myself^
E: Simple
*First time played (original). ^With weird vocal jam; band speaking instead of singing, included a DEA chant.
Pretty solid first set. Ghost is damn nice, kind of dies out though after a while, and then into Jim, which also seems to to die at the end (did they even go back into verse?- I don’t think so).
Just finished up the first set. I hadn’t heard anything from this show. The first set was fantastic, IMO. The “Jibboo” was a rager!
Thursday, February 20, 2003
Allstate Arena, Rosemont, IL
Set I: Rift > Rock and Roll, Guyute, Driver, Waves > Simple, Gotta Jibboo
Set II: Tweezer > Punch You in the Eye > Fast Enough for You, Seven Below, Pebbles and Marbles
Encore: Golgi Apparatus, Anything But Me, Tweezer Reprise
^ The Tweezer is great as well. Some say better than Nassau. Smoke on the Water jam!
I thought the “Tweezer” was good, but not better than 2/28. I definitely thought overall the first set outshone the second set.
Anyway…
Here’s definitely one of my favorite shows from all of 2000. Although overall I like this show better than 6-29, the “Drowned->Rock and Roll” from 6/29 is my favorite part of the '00 PNC shows.
6-28-00 PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ
Soundcheck: Dog Log, Ginseng Sullivan, Heavy Things, Funky Bitch
1: Chalkdust Torture, The Sloth, Taste, Bathtub Gin, Piper > If I Could (0:58)
2: Down with Disease -> Harry Hood* -> Gotta Jibboo, When the Circus Comes, Mike’s Song**, Albuquerque > Weekapaug Groove
E: First Tube, Loving Cup
*With a glowring war, and Trey catching glowrings. **The band freezes mid-song; after about a minute Trey cues, and the band picks up where they left off; band freezes a second time and starts “Albuquerque.”
08-12-98 Vernon Downs, Vernon, NY
Soundcheck: Runaway Jim, The Old Home Place, Ginseng Sullivan, Treat Me Like a Fool
1: La Grange, Makisupa Policeman*, Funky Bitch, Possum, Roggae, Character Zero, Ramble On, Slave to the Traffic Light (1:10)
2: Mike’s Song > Simple** > Rift, Loving Cup, Sleeping Monkey, Weekapaug Groove, The Squirming Coil
E: Burning Down the House+, You Enjoy Myself++
Apparently this show was close to Fishman’s hometown (Syracuse), and they were urging him to sing a song. *Keyword was “Burnin’ Down” (see encore). **With “Jesus Just Left Chicago” tease. +First time played (Talking Heads cover, from the album “Speaking in Tongues”); with alternate lyric “Vernon Down the house.” ++With “Hold Your Head Up” and “Mission Impossible Theme” teases; alternate lyric “drive me to Vernon.”
Nothing terribly mind blowing, though pretty solid playing through out. Nice Ramble On, great encore.
That Mike’s > Simple is straight TIT.
a
I’ve yet to get there on this listen. I was a little disappointed for the same sequence to open the Wheel, having heard the segue only days earlier. From what I remember at the Wheel, not much of a segue as a straight drop into Simple.

Me too!
You can’t really argue with a Mike’s opener, though.
This Mike’s is straight psychedelia and the Simple falls into a pretty
tight blues jam.
a
I had no qualms with the Mike’s, it was just going straight to Simple. This was also show 4 (Vernon), then 5/6 for me, so I was expecting to have every show be extremely different. Right around then I learned to stop having expectations, much more fun that way!
From same show:
“Here’s a trivia question for you. What was the name of Jon Fishman’s high school band?”

C’mon, man.
Frodo.

I figured maybe you’d let someone else answer, or at least ponder the yonder for a few. I knew from having just listened to it. You knew because…well…let’s face it…we might as well call you the all-knowledgable Icculus.
Sorry Icc.
