PEA SOUP! One of my favorite narrations… Forgot it was this show.

I had misplaced the second disk for the show for at least a couple of years. Found it this morning, and this show just continues to kick my ass. The band was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo very tight throughout most of these songs. Mike was especially killer, especially at the start of the second set. Wow.

I find that I have to back away from Phish every once in a while, because you need to refresh your perspective with other music in order to really hear how intimately they created music together.

There’s a section in the Fluffhead in this show that demonstrates how close Trey and Page can get to one another in their playing, it’s so unblievable at times. The Antelope that preceded it was likewise a Mike tour de force, one of my favorites for overall energy, creativity, and togetherness.

I read the thread that this show is arguably among the ten-best shows. But even if it’s not, it’s definitely among the top fifty shows, meaning it still contains some incredible fricken music.

Finding this second disk this morning wa s pretty much a blessing.

Set 1: David Bowie, Bouncing Around the Room, Poor Heart, My Friend My Friend, Rift, The Wedge, Chalk Dust Torture, Esther > Maze, Golgi Apparatus

Set 2: Punch You in the Eye > Mike’s Song > I am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove > Weigh, My Sweet One, Sample in a Jar, Big Ball Jam, Stash, Lizards, HYHU > Bike > Amazing Grace, E: Cavern, Rocky Top

Just finished this second set. It’s awesome, as long as you skip past the Big Ball Jam & Lengthwise! Lengthwise is funny at first, but then by the time he sings that stanza for the million-billionth time, right around the 4:37 mark, I start wondering how stoned they were that night at PPAC.

The rest of the show is exciting - the band is clearly excited, and I think it was sort of a prestigious gig for them at the time. Trey’s vocals go sharp a lot, and the ample mistakes (by Jon & Mike too, not just Trey) are the nervous kind of mistakes.

I just got my first recording of this show a few months back after wanting to get it for like 14 years.

8/13/93 MURAT

Seeing 6/25/97 II for the first time, thanks again Aug! Man, do I love this set. Fish on towel, yes!

splooged and bought 11/14/95, 12/1/95, 4/3/98, and 2/26/03 on live phish today. listenin to 12/1 right now and its a great SBD. unlike most of the PH, this has still got some audience mixed in

I still have the Fancy Bastard show in my head… Brad/Tube rawked our faces last night in a great post 10klf show!!!

newly bought 4/3/98 SBD…i compltely forgot how unbelievable this roses is… i mean…i knew it was good, BUT NO OTHER BAND ON THIS EARTH can jam to that extent. not to mention its a fucking COVER. damn phish is right up there with Dave Mathews when it comes to jams

^
No, they’re up there with the likes of O.A.R.

^No Maroon 5 is wayy better, I think…

Nice scarf.

^ I like the that they all have blazers on…

11-18-95 North Charleston Coliseum, North Charleston, SC

E: Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey#

*Acoustic. **Contained “Brickhouse” tease. #With Jack McConnell, Page’s father.

I know I should post other stuff about 10,000 lakes, me moving and all that stuff, but I am kind of at a loss for words and really busy right now. The only c.d.'s I have readily available are phish c.d.'s. I’m also listening to the 3 set Oswego day in my car.

This show has an awesome Reba as well as Slave. The YEM gets really funky too.

1: Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > You Enjoy Myself, Theme from the Bottom, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, Bathtub Gin > Cities, Sparkle, Split Open and Melt

2: Down with Disease -> Ya Mar -> Prince Caspian, Maze -> Shafty* -> Possum^ -> Cavern^^

E: Bold as Love#

Aftershow PA music: Theme from The Godfather. Basically none of the songs in the second set were finished, all jammed out into some other song. *First time played; shares most lyrics with “Oblivious Fool.” ^With funked-out jam during which Trey said “This is for all those that came down wanting to dance” and “we’re gonna funk it out”. ^^Funky version; with Trey strutting around on stage during the heavy funk; includes older lyrics (“turned the blade back on the bitch, and dropped her in the dung”).

my buddy had an extra copy of this AUD before the LP release, and he put OKP on btb to start…makes sense now…

great first set, but the lil ditty Trey does in YaMar is what got me tho

lately I find myself listening to these discs at least once a month, particularly the end of set 1 with Dick Solberg.

05-06-93 Palace Theater, Albany, NY

E: Sweet Adeline, Contact, Tweezer Reprise

*With Dick Solberg on fiddle. **With Dick Solberg on fiddle and Jeff Walton on acoustic guitar.

^
One of the very first experimental "Tweezer"s.

A pretty good “Mike’s Song” too.
