From phish.net:
Sbd/Aud mixes: The following shows were recorded to DAT from a separate recording board at the shows. They are some of the highest
quality Phish tapes in existence: 4/22/90, 10/30/90, 10/31/90, 11/2/90, 11/3/90, 11/4/90, 3/13/91, 3/15/91, 3/16/91, 3/17/91, 3/22/91,
3/23/91, 4/5/92. Except for the 4/5/92 tape, they have all been fairly widely circulated. They were done on a large recording console
(not EQ) and mixed completely separately from the board mix, rumoredly done in a truck outside the venue. The engineer used 2 audience
mics to mix in crowd/hall ambience (on most of them).

Really?

a
On July 25 1999 my only grandson was born in a hospital in Red Bank, NJ. Six years earlier to the day, Phish was playing about 70 miles away at Waterloo Village in Stanhope NJ. Thanks to the expansive generosity of the neckster, I was able to listen to some of that show this morning on the way to work.
And the conclusion that I came to, one that all of us could probably admit, was that I definitely missed attending some great years of touring. I would have been at this Stanhope show for sure, and it just blows my mind how much difference there was in Phish’s approach to their music between 93 and 97 when I first got to see them live.
Most of all, I think I love the energy of the 93 music. It was wanton, mischievous, and sometimes just downright insane. And for some of their compositions, like Wilson, Stash, and Foam for instance, I think these attitudes were sorely missing as the band matured. Add to this how much I loved the pre-chant Wilsons and pre-clap Stashes, and I definitely know that I arrived at least four years too late for the scene.

I haven’t even finished the first set yet, but thanks Thom for the turn-on. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the early shows you sent. And Sean, I’ll have that package in the mail today.
It’s that time of the night… time for a brand new source of me favorite post-hiatus! Currently in the middle of the piperpaug.

8-16-97 Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, ME
1: Makisupa Policeman-> Harpua*, Chalk Dust Torture, Theme From the Bottom, Punch You in the Eye-> Ghost, Ginseng Sullivan, You Enjoy Myself, Train Song, Character Zero, The Squirming Coil (1:16)

3: Halley’s Comet-> Cities-> Llama-> Lawn Boy, Limb By Limb^-> Funky Bitch (0:59)
E: Contact-> Loving Cup (0:13)
4: Disco Tent Jam
The Great Went (Day One). *Starts with the theme and Jimmy story, picking up where the song aborted last year at the end of the Clifford Ball (08-17-96). **With theme from “The Odd Couple” tease/jam. #With a kind of a twisted “Seven Dwarves” (or “When the Circus Comes”?) sort of jam. ^Major fireworks are let off behind the stage during the song, culminating in a great finale display as Funky Bitch kicks in.
^Are most Phish fans as down on set 1 as Trey was?
It did seem a bit watered down and flat the first time I heard it, but nothing to be ashamed about.
but obviously sets 2 and 3 are epic
I haven’t heard the first set (or the whole show, for that matter) in quite some time. So I’ll pay particularly close attention to the first set to see what Trey was so upset about.
So far the “Theme” jam is very, very good. One of the best I’ve heard.
But sadly it’s the 4th song in and the only highlight so far.
11-30-97 Worcester Centrum, Worcester, MA
1: Guyute, Funky Bitch, Wolfman’s Brother-> Hard Jam*-> Love Me, The Squirming Coil, Loving Cup
2: NICU, Stash** > Free, #Piper, When The Circus Comes, Run Like an Antelope
E: Them Changes##
*Hard rock jam: Mike quotes “Heartbreaker” going into the jam, and Trey says a few lines from “Sanity” and then one line from “Esther.” Trey asks Chris to turn off the lights, and they jam in the dark. #Preceded by space jam that started out of nothing. **Unfinished. ##Buddy Miles cover.
interesting Free.
^ that was my favorite night of the run! That was my first trip out to the Centrum. That Free is def in my top 5 and i think it was the only one of tour! I slightly prefer 98 to 97 but both 3 night runs were spectacular!
MIAMI PIPER!!
had great seats for this night…without a doubt my favorite of the 15 shows I got to attend. Kind of a you-had-to-be-there night since the energy of the crowd was one of the main reasons it was so enjoyable. Nothing ground-breaking musically but such a damn good time and a nicely executed show.
12/29/03 American Airlines Arena - Miami, FL
1: Piper, Foam, Anything But Me, Limb by Limb, Wolfman's Brother, Poor Heart, Cavern
2: Rock and Roll > Twist* -> Boogie On Reggae Woman -> Ghost -> Free**, Divided Sky, Good Times Bad Times
E1: Waste#
E2: Squirming Coil
Notes:* - with Trey screaming something unidentified before the "whoos"; ** - with two-minute Trey/Mike duet; # - the band left the stage between the two encores. AFTERSHOW: Mike sat in with local band Spackle for "War Pigs" (Black Sabbath) and "Deep Elem Blues" (GDead) at Miami's Tobacco Road
Thanks to Jason Pinsky (Phish.com), ZZYZX, Phillip Zerbo, Geoff Kaiser, and "anonymous" for info.
btw, this is one of the only Limbs ever played that I don’t skip. I find most Limbs to be bland first set filler, but this one just does it for me. Very energetic, great playing by Trey.
^I’ve never heard the Miami Piper, but have heard a lot about it…
I’m currently listening to:
08-17-93 Memorial Hall, Kansas City, KS

2: Also Sprach Zarathustra-> David Bowie, The Horse-> Silent in the Morning, Rift, Suzy Greenberg, You Enjoy Myself, Purple Rain-> HYHU, My Sweet One, Cavern
E: Memories, Fire
It was the closest Aug. '93 date to today, and I felt like some Aug. '93.
