What show are you listening to right now?

I like the underdogs.
a

So-so Phish is still great music!

and now onto…

07-20-98 Ventura County Fairgrounds, Ventura, CA

1: Bathtub Gin*, Dirt, Poor Heart**, Lawn Boy, My Sweet One, Birds of a Feather, Theme from the Bottom, Water in the Sky, The Moma Dance, Split Open and Melt (1:20)

2: Drowned -> Makisupa Policeman^ -> Maze, Sea and Sand, Prince Caspian^^, Harry Hood^^^

E: Sexual Healing#, Halley’s Comet## (2/E 1:30)

Trey was chatty for the entire show. *With Crosseyed and Painless tease. **With “Freebird” ending (instrumental, not a capella). ^Keyword was “skunk”; included a Trey solo at the end. ^^Trey soloed 32nd notes for minutes on end. ^^^With glowsticks. #First time played; original by Marvin Gaye; Fish swaying side to side and singing karaoke-style from lyrics drawn on the back of a poster for the show; Trey on drums. ##Funked out, into a disco jam, into a delay loop jam (during which Trey had five or more loops going at once), at the end of which they left the stage one by one (Trey, Fish, Mike, then Page).

^
That “SOAMelt” to end the set is one of my favorites!

I’ll keep my ears peeled for it!

PLAY SOMETHING NEW!

E: Harpua* > “Wildwood Weed” Rap$* > Harpua* > I Wanna Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart# > Harpua*-> Suspicious Minds^-> Harpua > Suzy Greenberg**

#With vicious start/stop jamming. *Most of Harpua had Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde from Primus. After the opening, Les did a rap about a weed or something like that. Then more Harpua and the Jimmy story (Jimmy and Poster Nutbag going to Vegas). They stop and camp. At the campsite, they start yodelling. $Based on the song from Jim Stafford’s “Spiders and Snakes” album. #With yodelers. John McEuen and Heather and Anamiekl August did a country/yodel tune. The story continues, Jimmy & Poster meet up with four “Elvii” on the edge of Las Vegas and have a duel. ^The four “Elvii” sing the first few verses of “Suspicious Minds” and then Fish continues. Jimmy (Fish?) is victorious. Then the dog/cat fight. Harpua wins and the song finishes. At some point everyone returns and then Brian Mantia, the drummer for Primus, shows up for “Suzie Greenberg”. **All of the above musicians; with “Suzie Q” jam lead by one of the Elvii.
