Whatever happened to Texas?

It has been since September of 1999 since Phish has played anywhere in Texas…Since the reunion, the closest place they have come to playing in Texas is St louis, Mo. Whatsup Phish? When I got the current sorrowful tour itinerary, my closest option this summer is to drive to Atlanta, GA on 7-3 and 7-4…hmmm only 900 miles away. Thanks for the love Phish…

After the Desert Sky show in 98’ I went back to Chicago, I was not about to got to Texas for 3 shows…

Between the insane Drug Laws and the Heat (no pun intended) it does not seem to be a desirable place to have a Phish show…

well, Texas is just in the middle of nowhere and pretty much sucks, and Phish doesn’t care about it. I live in North Dakota and it’s the same way. You just gotta accept it and be ready to travel if you really want to see shows.

I have seen rumors of them playing the Backyard in Austin though… and I have a good buddy who lives there…

Marijuana Laws? Willie Nelson owns Texas mannnnn

I have lived all over this country. 7 years in Columbus, Oh…16 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, and 14 in Austin, TX. Yes, I would agree with you that Texas may not be the most desirable place to see a show, but that shouldn’t be the deciding factor. They have a LOT of fans here. Don’t forget that most Texans live in metropolitan areas. I have been following this band around since 1993, and i find it personally insulting that they haven’t played here since 1999. I GUARANTEE you that the weather in Texas is nicer in the fall, winter and spring than ANY place on the East coast. Oh and BTW, our drug laws are more lenient than California’s. SO COME ON DOWN YA’LL…I’ll share a phat one with you~

:wtf:

Um… what? I’m not saying Phish shouldn’t play Texas… but, in my state if you get caught with less than an oz of weed without a prescription, it is a non-arrestable misdemeanor and is punishable by a $100 ticket. If you do have a prescription, it is legal.

In your state, anything less than 2 oz. lands you 180 days in jail and a $2000 fine.

Again, I got no problem with Phish playing Texas… but please, don’t insult my state.

^^ doubt the whole Cali law is worse than Texas, but don’t count Phish out yet…I would not be surprised if they played the Backyard this Fall

Not true! In Texas anything less than TWO ounces is a misdemeanor. Anything OVER an ounce in Cali is a felony. READ… . Below are two links for Texas and California’s drug laws regarding possession of marijuana:

norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4566

…don’t insult my intelligence…dooj

^Read it. Anything less than 2 oz.

That means if I get caught with a dimebag in TX, I’d be arrested and could be looking at 180 days and $2k. In cali, I’d be looking at a $100 ticket and no arrest-- about the same as jaywalking.

And that doesn’t even mention “gifts”. Give someone a dimebag in TX, you’re looking at 180 days and $2k. Give 'em a dimebag in CA and you might get a $100 ticket.

And where did you get felony for over an oz? It’s a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $500.

Of course, this is all until November when we flat out legalize it.

Anyways, it’s all good man. No hard feelings towards Texas here. But, if I gotta choose between my laws or yours, I’m gonna stick with mine.

They played Knoxville in '96, and ignored us for a LONG time. But they came around! You can’t be EVERYwhere at once. I don’t think they’re trying to insult or offend Texas.

I personally, have been to Texas twice, and I really never want to go back. No offense, that’s just me. Though, Austin sounds very desirable.

And what’s this North Dakota place again?

Hey, up until last year, Dec-99 was the last time Phish came to Michigan. Them not going to Texas is awfully weird since that’s a much bigger and more prominent state than Michigan and with more people and a LOT of nice venues to play in. Why no love for the Bomb Factory…home of Tweezerfest? It just seems that Phish likes to stick in the midwest and the East. This is kind of why I dislike these “mini-tours” they do for just a month…it’s them going to the same venues and they never branch out to other areas.

they don’t play texas because texas sucks. there i said what everyone was thinking but didn’t want to say. you want to see 'em, get on a plane or in your car and go to a show just like everyone else. that’s what i’ll be doing this summer. even though they’re playing in my state (CO), it’s still about an 8 hour drive to get to the show from where i live. you don’t see me bitching about it.

Doesn’t mean you’re not bitching about something else though.

^^hey I said Texas sucks too!

yeah the closest show to me since target center '00 is Alpine Valley, and that’s 11-12 hours by car… I’ve seen lots of shows since then.

i can’t imagine not living on the east coast. never have to worry about where phish is coming to cause they’ll always be at least a couple hours away

i actually visited texas for the first time earlier this month… it really is gorgeous in the late winter/early spring. it was sunny and around 65-70 every day, no humidity. and the landscapes are gorgeous. but, yeah, wouldn’t want to mess with the texas law/evangelicals…

And, BTW, let’s not forget the late summer tour '09 announcement video…

See, Phish didn’t forget Texas.

I dont hate Texas…just thought this was really funny.

I thought somebody in the band or management said that they really didn’t want to play in Texas ever again after fall 99? True, they also said in 2004 they would never play anywhere again, I just remember hearing that during that fall tour. I think it was Texas and New Orleans. But you know how these rumors go.

BTW that penis cactus picture was
