What's your favorite Mike bass line?

I was thinking about this the other day. What’s your favorite standard bass line that Cactus hits us with? For example the Disease opener, the Melt opener, etc.

The reason I was thinking about this was becasue of hearing Brother the other night. Man that is one sick bass line.

Jam in Mike’s Song. It’s so simple, brooding and raging, plus it sounds like Stranglehold, just badass everytime.

The intro of It’s Ice is also a favorite.

Bowie with Tweezer close behind. Mike adds such a nice texture to the chorus of Bowie. I think it would sound waaaay too flat without Cactus thumping out that groove.

That being said, Mike completely destroys the entire SOTG album.

YA Mar!

Tweez Intro is one of my fav lines of Gordo’s…

I will also go with Tweezer. I am a fan of Moma Dance and the jam in Mike’s as well. I like it when he plays that dark, thick, funky sounding bass. Sounds like molasses coming out of his amp.

For Phish songs, Moma Dance & Weekapaug are probably among my favorites.

Especially that Weekapaug in 11/24/09… poor Trey can’t keep up

MAZE!

He absolutely beats the shit out of that bass in “Free”. I gotta say, I really enjoy that.

Avenu Malkenu.

Haley’s Comet.

I’m gonna go with the tweez… crank up the bass people ;D

:wtf: no way ? lol

I love Split Open and Melt. The Yem jam too. 97 Ghosts and tweezer.

Divided Sky by far.

Some favorites include: It’s Ice, Tweezer, Ghost (especially the part he always slaps), Split Open and Melt intro, etc.

That being said, favorite Mike Gordon bass lines are by far the ones that aren’t written.

I love the one where he goes “be-dep-a dew, bop-a-dap-ee-doo-bap, ee-did-doo”.

Actually there is a run he does right as the F#m part of Mike’s Song begins on the 12-31-92 version that I wish was there every time. You know, where it’s just Mike & Fish laying down the foundation for that section while Brad’s getting the mini-tramps ready.

I know, shocking innit?

Other tunes where I love Mike’s bass include The Beltless Buckler, Rings, Collins Missile, Invisible, and Another Door.

Thank you!

The YEM bassline is such a nice counterpart to the melody.
