I disagree. I mean, sure money has something to do with it-- the guy is a creative genius and deserves good pay-- not to mention the fact that a bigger budget means more toys to play with and, ultimately, more fun.
But I’m quite certain that, even from a music-to-lighting standpoint, a show like Bieber’s, Madonna’s, Gaga’s, Britney’s, etc… is not at all underwhelming for an LD. Orchestrated shows are often more fun and more challenging for an artist than improvisational ones-- especially when you have lit those particular improvisations a million times over 3 decades. Bieber has drum beats, guitar riffs, bass bombs and cymbal crashes just like any other music… he also has choreography and lots of spectacle on stage. If Kuroda is underwhelmed with the show, he’s not putting in any effort-- and I seriously doubt Kuroda would approach a job that way.
