Dude. Come on. Meatstick and and Carini suck? Walnut Creek is boring? I’ve never heard anyone say Walnut Creek is boring. Not saying you’re not a Phish fan, but good lord man, I’ve never heard so much harsh criticism of them, even from people who don’t like them.

There’s room for criticism, but I like to check mine at the door. No one likes a Debby Downer! And who cares if they flub (if its the song itself, or flubs in the song) once in a while? Yes, I’d love it to be PERFECT but as long as it isn’t Coventry, I’m pretty happy.

This is ridiculous…Two years ago we would have taken any bit of Phish we could hear. This is a Phish message board. We are all pretty much hardcore phans here. That kinda article isn’t going to sit well around here.

i know you’re just being honest about your opinion, but it’s gotten old. i don’t listen or go to shows just so i can complain about it afterword. but by all means, whatever cooks your cookies.
Kinda seems like this harsh wave of criticism will always be here, regardless.
Oh well, it’s hard enough to get a ticket as it is 
lol at you rolling your eyes at the 4 minute mark durring TTE. Thats exactly when it starts to get out of this world amazing. Its funny because I definately agree that billy breathes and story are masterpieces. Both those are my favs as well except I like story more than billy. Walnut creek is pretty sweet IMO but not their best DVD. Also, with the whole meatsick and carini argument it seems like you favor the serious phish and have a lack of patience for the silly phish which is reflective in both the lyrics and the music. I personally think that bieng able to represent both extremes is what makes them great. 2 cents
People have been bashing Phish forever…When i was on my 1st Tour in 98’, there where lots of Haters saying that the music is changing for the worst…People did not like the new shit (Ghost!!! Are you fucking kidding me???) and got sick of them repeating it…Don’t listen to the Haters, don’t read their reviews and don’t even get in discussion with them…They just want to ruin our fun since they are not having any…
Go read some reviews of ANY Phish show ever played and you will find someone bashing it…That includes 12-31-95, GameHoist, Bomb Factory TweezerFest, all had someone say it sucked…To each their own I suppose…
And who cares about repeats…Go look at early 90’s setlists, when new songs were repeated often…2001 opened sooo many 2nd sets, i’m sure people complained…
Same thing with the Grateful Dead, If you were on Tour in 71’-72’ you would get 2-3 Dark Star’s a week…Who would complain about that???..
In my mind, Phish is NOT for the casual fan…If you only like 20 Phish songs, don’t go to shows…IF YOU CAN’T TAKE THE HEAT, STAY AWAY FROM THE STOVE!!!
And people that don’t listen to Phish AT ALL, should say nothing…Don’t speak about something you know nothing about, thats just lame…

I stopped reading after the bitch about “Surrender to the Air”. Obviously this fan (word used loosely) has never listened to Sun Ra and has no idea that SttA was in many respects a tribute to Sun Ra and his sound. Sun Ra’s music was dissonant and f’ed up sounding, just like SttA.
It’s not an album I listen to, but it does have it’s merits and bottom line it’s the album Trey wanted to make. The music Phish is playing and making right now is the music they want to make.
The job of the artist is not to make people happy. The job of the artist is to express themselves in whatever way they feel fit. Take it or leave it, but saying that they are “pissing in our ears” is just the sort of PT comments that are just a waste of bandwidth.

The band has written a TON of new material, and that’s a lot of freaking work. It’s ambitious too.
If you feel disappointed because they’re not cranking out classics like those old tour-horses, let me tell you the news!: That’s life. Most bands can’t sustain that level of excellence in creation - in courting the muse - for their entire career.
What an insult to such an ambitious effort, to make that analogy.
It’s easy to piss. Try writing something like TTE. Way harder than pissing.
