WIDESPREAD PANIC - Cleveland

Well, it is that time once again. Hoppin’ on the Panic train.

03/31.
Downtown Cleveland.
State Theatre.

The first place I really saw them.
The same stage I graduated on.

Got orchestra seats.
Time to rage once again.

ill be there

I’m Going to see Panic on Sunday in Albany. I am Psyched. I went down to Atlanta for New Years and got ridiculously ill. Fever, Throwing up, Bodyaches. It was a nightmare. I couldnt make it to the 30th or NYE. So needless to say, I’m exremely psyched about seeing them this weekend. Anyone Going to Albany?

tonight.

Jimmy Herring is gelling with the band 1000000X better than the last time I saw them together.

I am hammered.

OK… wow. What a fucking show. Some of those peaks they hit in jams… Just wow. Not a lot of bands can get you that high.

Day started off great. Got off work right when the Cavs took on the Bulls, and they beat them. Ya heard B!

So then we headed down to the show, and there was actually a really nice lot. Something I am not used to at Panic shows… but then when I think of it. There was a really huge lot scene in Cleveland last August. So that was fun to drink a few whiskey drinks before heading in to the show.

So we (JT, Chris, and midway through the first set Nikki) all had seats on the floor, but WAY in the back. Like two rows in. So we wooked our way right up to the front into the Schools Zone. We had a whole “balcony” to ourselves on the right side. It was great for raging.

And as I said in my drunken post above, Jimmy Herring was ON SPOT with the band. When I saw them back in October in Detroit… I felt like he was in his own world kind of. Not paying attention at all. But not tonight. The way this band goes back and forth is higher and higher is just great.

And then they played this:

03/31/07 Playhouse Square Center State Theatre, Cleveland, OH
1: Climb to Safety > Rock, Smoking Factory, Pigeons,
Blue Indian > Rebirtha > Stop Breaking Down*, Dyin’ Man > Travelin’ Light
2: Tallboy > Space Wrangler, Sleeping Man, Travelin’ Man > Drums > Maggot Brain > Life During Wartime, None of Us are Free > Henry Parsons Died > Imitation Leather Shoes
E: Old Joe > Cream Puff War

  • with Taylor Hicks on Harmonica

As soon as they started up Climg To Safety, I just had that feeling it was going to be a great show. Stop Breaking Down Blues was great, and from I could hear the Taylor Hicks fellow was really killing it. Maybe I was in the wrong spot, but I couldnt really hear him all the time. But what I did hear, I loved.

And Dyin Man>Travelin Light… Yes! Travelin Light was what I wanted to hear this night, as they played it on the Chicago show I missed last year.

And then the second set, well… It was just great. Maggot Brain (another one I missed in Chicago… yes!) > Life During Wartime? Yes please!

And then the encore. Quite possibly the best encore I have ever seen by any band. It is right up there with Govt Mule with Peter Frampton. Old Joe was one JT has wanted to see since he got into Panic. It only took him almost two dozen shows or something around there. But he got it, and it was great. And then you should have seen the smile on his face once they started into Cream Puff War. What a great period on the night.

All in all… I have to say when Widespread Panic comes to Cleveland, they really bring it.

Can’t wait for Waka Waka!

Rebirtha–>Stop Breakin’ Down

Nice.

Oh… And I forgot to mention the girl who kept getting on stage. She was HOTTTT. Flashed the crowd a lil bit taboot taboot.

I am on a panic run today. When I finish what I am listening to now, this show is next, as it was just dl’d

  • w/Taylor Hicks on harmonica

Is this Taylor Hicks stuff for real?

Isn’t he the guy from American Idol? WTF? Sorry, I’m not plugged into network TV so much, except LOST.

Are people OK with this? Is he actually good at harmonica? When am I going to stop asking questions?

Yep, I didn’t know who it was at first, and I really enjoyed what I heard from him.

As far as how good he is at harmonica… I don’t think I can give you definitive yes or no. During 60% of the time, I couldn’t even hear him. I don’t know what the problem was. Maybe my ears were just closed.

But from what I did hear, he fuckin’ raged.

That show looks sick sick sick Will. You luck bastard. Space Wrangler, Travelin Light, Maggot Brain, Cream Puff War, jesus H man. I gotta get off my ass and move to Cleveland.
