Wilco- Sky Blue Sky

Wilco’s new album is really good. It’s the most ‘traditional’ thing they’ve released since Being There: it’s very 70s sounding, with both lots of guitar solos/Steely Dan-ish arrangements and singer/songwriter-esque aesthetics. I think of all the Wilco albums you jam band/classic rock folks will like this the best of all of their albums thus far; there’s zero of the experimental elements that have made their last two albums such critic cause celebre’s.

It’s not actually out until May 15th, but you can pick it off Bit Torrent right now.

I think they are exposing Nels Cline a little too much on this one.
He was always the secret weapon live, but i think his solos are showcased on a lot of the tracks.
That being said, i like the album.
I think it is a great continuation of Ghost Is Born.

I haven’t heard the new record, but I saw them a couple of times last year, and I’ve got to say, Nels Cline is one of the best lead guitarists, and overall musicians I’ve ever seen. Glenn Kotche is also one of the best drummers around. Regardless of the material, the current incarnation of Wilco is mighty.

i always hav been a HUGE fan of YHF, however, then got AM/FM and it just didnt spakr me in the same way. so i havnt gotten any more wilco since. and never ehard a ghost is born. is this new album at all like YHF? is a ghost is born at all like YHF??

AM is nearly universally considered their weakest album. A Ghost Is Born is the closest you’re going to get to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in the Wilco discography, though it’s not that much like it. It’s experimental but in different ways.

You Need Summerteeth. Please, Famus. If you get Ghost or Summerteeth, it has to be Summer. I think greg would agree.

wow…i just got sky blue sky

pretty damn good, atleast compared to A.M.

cant wait to get a shitload more of this band.

im really diggin it. thx for lettin me kno not th be discouraged by AM guys!

Just started listening to Wilco, still trying testing them out… not sure what I think of them just yet.

Wilco just confuses me. I don’t even they have a clue what type of music they play.

Ok, up until now, I’ve been listening to live Wilco, and I have not been pleased. I just couldn’t get into them and still was clueless on what all the hype was about. So, I went out and got Sky Blue Sky, and sampled two albums, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born from the iTunes libraries here at school, and I fucking love them. I have not stopped listening to them… I’ve now listened to all their albums and love them. MUCH more a fan of studio Wilco than live, I don’t think I’ll ever listen to another live show of theirs again…

2cents.

In my opinion, Wilco are one of America’s greatest and most important bands, live, studio, or otherwise (wait, what??). Jeff Tweedy is a brilliant lyricist and musician, and the various members of Wilco over the years have been some decent sidemen.
