Love me some Wombat. And some Vigoda. ![]()
The Halloween '13 version of this tune FTW.
In a way I’m glad it outshines the studio version (IMO) … but then I’m a hopeless optimist.
No seriously, I don’t usually say that. With few exceptions I’m a studio versions guy.
I love this song. It breathes of old-school phish. Really looking forward to hearing it live. I wonder if they will stretch it out or if it will be more “standard” like Tube or Moma Dance. It really doesn’t fit on the album though, kind of weird that they just threw it in. Would of been much better as a 10min hidden track
Man, I HOPE the live version outshines the album one. It’s just too weird and seems to be cut off before it even gets going.
Also, that’s the first time I’ve seen the Don Gordleone video. Awesome.
Trey isn’t big on albums being longer than 50-55 minutes… Fuego clocks in at 54 and change. I’m thinking that the ridiculous, serious funk will go much longer live. I hope so! That groove is just SICK!
I just watched the one from Halloween and this song will/should definitely be taken places live. This is a tune that needs to breathe!
Abe Vigoda is loving the love from the crowd.
A quick phish-nerd-out this morning confirms that with the exception of Round Room (77:51), every album beginning with Hoist is right around 50 minutes.
The longest album is Junta at around 83 minutes (not including the live tracks added later).
Having put together a few albums of my own - two rock albums and one classical album - 50 minutes is actually a really good amount of time for a sit-down listen. Aside from operas and a few massive works (I’m thinking Wagner in particular), most symphonic or chamber works don’t exceed an hour (if you’ve never heard any of Steve Reich’s music, Drumming in particular, you’d probably love it).
I’m sure there’s a lot out there about that amount of time being a “good” amount for a single listening experience.
Here’s the Wombat choreography for AC 2013 as posted by the Choreographer, Job Rua:

I’ve been wondering who Phish gets to do the choreography for the dancers, and today I have at least an answer for one of the routines.
Love it when pro dancers dance to choreography… to a Phish tune!
RIP
