^^^OOOOOO. Z-Trip is def. something I know about. He is from phoenix, and when I used to party out in AZ he would play records all the time. My friends in Tucson used to throw these little parties in this wig store once a month that he or his partners would dj. Talk about a creative DJ! He would re-miz Tom Sawyer by Rush live, he would mash-up Run DMC’s Thats Just the way it is with Bruce Hornsby’s The way it is, he even remixed Kansas’s Dust in the Wind and Ratt’s Round and Round. AND IT ALL WORKS WELL!
Around 2001-2 he put together an Extremely limited (1000 discs) mix CD with another dj called dj P. This disc, uneasy listening, is very rare but also REALLY SICK. The whole thing is innovative mixes of pop, hiphop, classic rock, cock rock, dance music, and pretty much everything under the sun and is truly great for adventurous listeners. IT is really rare because he neglected to get copright cleareances for any of the tunes. (it would’ve cost millions upon millions of dollars) I happen to have a copy and I would love to share it with whoever. So drop me a PM and well trade!

If you like Z-Trip, I would check out the “Return of the DJ” series comps. Along with Z-trip there’s a lot of others like Rob Swift, Peanut Butter Wolf, Invisbl Skratch Picklz, Cut Chemist etc… The “Deep Concentration” and “Deeper Concentration” comps from OM records are also pretty hot.

I would also recommend Dj Shadow…his latest album Private Press is ok…but I really enjoyed an ealrier album he did called Pre-Emptive Strike…if you can find it with a bonus disc it’s remixed by DJ Q-Bert (one of the invisible scratch pickles mentioned in an earlier thread…) Those discs are sick…esp. the last track…organ grinder…I have a copy of one of Rob Swift’s discs the ablist…good example of good turntablism…but it doesn’t come with the sickness.
^ DJ Shadow’s records are great. You gotta love a guy that samples Tangerine Dream. He does most of his stuff with a sampler, while a lot of the other people we’ve talked about are working more strictly with turntables. You could also check out stuff like Prefuse 73 and Four Tet, which remind me more of DJ Shadow than the “turntablists” do.
I was camped right by that goddamn tent and if I ever hear that technobabble crap again I might slip into a wookie-fit. SO annoying, especially since you can’t escape it and you’re trying to sleep at, oh, seven in the morning.

i think i hit up the wookie tent!
after chilling at the camp for a few hours after the last set, me and my friend decided to walk Shakedown one more time. We were down there till like 8am. I remember a few wookie dance tents. The one i remember most was blasting some good ole Grateful Dead but i remember the techno disco one too. People in costumes and what not.
