worst post-hiatus shows

This is really tough to do, because all shows have some good points, but the shows I would put at the bottom are: (I won’t list coventry)

  1. 2.25.03–theme from the bottom is the only highlight
  2. 7.7.03–tour opener, but just seemed bland
  3. 7.27.03–second set is very cool, but first set was sooooo bad
  4. 11.28.03
  5. 4.15.04–very sloppy, we know what trey’s state was at these shows, but the first night was the worst (last two nights had some good moments, namely twist)

other shows I don’t listen to are 2.16.03, 7.8.03, 7.10.03, 11.29.03, 6.18.04
thoughts, comments, concerns, rips???

other shows on the fringe: 7.21.03, 2.18.03, 2.24.03

7.21.03? Damn. The playing is hardly awe-inspiring, but if someone were to just glance at the setlist, they may think it is an above-average show. First set “Mike’s!”

My vote goes to 7-8-03

I knew someone would question 7.21, because the setlist looks great, but there is no experiemental or cool jamming except for weekapaug.

^
I’m never one to bash the 7.29 show, but you can say the same thing about it (no real experimental jamming except “crosseyed and painless”). both shows contain great-looking setlists. the tour really didnt heat up until 7.15 where they decided to jam on “mr. completely”

2/21/03. First night of Cinci, OH.

It may just be because the next night is superb in my mind.

Since I dislike 95% of the Post-Hiatus shows, so I couldn’t even decide where to begin here…

We heard ya the first time Vern…

What was that thing about not sayin’ anything if you don’t have anything to say?

The worst Post hiatus show that I have had the unpleasure of listening to completely is 4-15-04.

I’ve listened to a lot of post-hiatus shows, but this one takes the cake for sloppiness, non-jamming, and pure SUCK factor.

Coventry comes a close second…both shows!

yeah, the Vegas run doesn’t really do much for me either. Good call.

Hell, there are probably only about 3-4 2004 shows I’d say “hey, I should sit down and listen to that entire show.”

When we come right down to it, 2004 is most likely THE MOST inconsistent year in Phish history. Sure, there’s great stuff like the two SPAC and Camden…but, well, you know the rest.

word. 8.11.04 is the last good/great phish show. That night was great in my book. I could’ve left happy after the first HYHU. All the talking afterwards wasn’t even important after divided, suzy>dwd, soam>tears of a clown—and the second set was amazing!!! I drove to camden for the next night, and the vibe was just not there. I almost got shot in the parking lot afterwards by some crazy homeless guy, and evertything got taken from me on the way into the show by security–weak.
8.10.04 had some great jamming too. especially weekapaug and birdsof a feather.

(2/21/03. First night of Cinci, OH.

It may just be because the next night is superb in my mind. )

you need to give this show another chance Will … IMO it was a good show , except for the wading encore.

Cmon wilson , frankenstein , DWD to open the show ? there was a hood and 2001 …i personally was at this show and thought it was a sicky.

2-28-03 is definitely the worst post-hiatus phish show. (kidding!)

I agree with Icculus and his 2 cents—There’s something about every phish show that I can enjoy. Even every post-hiatus show. I think Coventry is arguably their worst played post-hiatus shows but the jam from Drowned I enjoyed. Jiboo was good and the soundcheck w/ light up or leave me alone was stellar. So even a show like 2-25-03 is very tempting to download b/c the Theme is tight and the Taste is good.
Anyways, my votes for this thread as worst (although I hate using Worst and Phish in a sentence) is - well actually I can’t do it…I haven’t listened to each show thru so I don’t want to diss a show I may end up liking. I’ll vote 7/8/03 for now or 2/18/03. What’s up w/ 2/20/03? I’ve heard not-so-good things but the setlist doesn’t look that bad.
Also my 2cents- I really like 2/24/03. I wasn’t at the show. I’ve only listened to it. So BB was in no way a buzzkill to me. I enjoyed listening to it. I like when legends share the stage w/ Phish. Some Phish phans should be more receptive to that. On livephish.com in the comments some fools are like “get off the stage old man.”

i agree with the vegas '04 run comments

I’ve given it a lot of chances. It was my first post-hiat show. I only saw the Cinci shows for the Winter tour (which I regret). So… It may just be because I notice stuff in this show more, but I really loved the setlist. But as many others know, setlists do not matter really. The playing was all off that night, atleast that is how it sounded to me.

Second night, my favorite post-hiat show… Hence the overshadowing.

The playing was a little off the first night of cinci compared to the second, but when I listen to the show, it sounds like the crowd is really pumped and rowdy. Most of the songs are pretty well played, and I can’t knock the mikes>free>WAste>2001>hood in any way.

I’ve got the “Free” from 2/21/03 playing and while the jam is funky bombs from Mike, the composed section (as well as some vocals) are botched horribly. But I think that is a very minute factor when considering the strength of a song (it’s all about the jam and where it goes!)

I watched that 2-22-03 show recently…that crowd surely was rowdy and ready for it! Will…I suppose YOU were part of that spirit???

It was quite a fun day. Fire alarms at 5 in the morning. Cold Ohio snow. The sweater on the inside made of Jack Daniels.

“We’re all in this together, and we love to take a bath!”
