Worth picking up?

did you at least pick thru it for cash and valuables befor you thru it out??

sweet…i love wasting money too…

Yeah man, maybe she had a big bag of magic.

Resurrecting this thread…

I’ve read the posts and still haven’t come to the conclusion of whether or not to buy this album. It would almost complete the collection of studio releases (sans Junta and The White Tape). It seems like the posters on this thread are divided into 2 camps. One the one hand I should pick it up for the simple fact that it is the final album of the band that has consumed my life for the past 5 years. On the other hand, is it $17.99 (or whatever) worth of music? Does it really matter?

i know what they did around release time too… THEY BROKE UP. and given the hostility that certain “fans” have towards anything new that came out of the band… who could blame them?

they shouldn’t have to worry about playing new material because their “fans” will get pissed off (i.e. 2004 tour). do you know how many people were bitching when they played access me live?

PHISH BROKE UP BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

sorry, and im sure i will get flamed for this, but its how i feel.

^Props to you brah… Though I think Trey’s severe drug problems also played a big part in the breakup, you are right. So many “fans” were so quick to jump on anything new and crucify it because it didn’t sound like Divided Sky… how can someone call themselves a fan and do that? Too much focus on “is it as good as it used to be?” and not enough on “is it good?” or “do I like it?”.

And go buy Undermind if you haven’t. Because it IS good. And I think you’ll like it. Unless you’re looking for something that sounds like Divided Sky, that is.

Right on man…

I think, more or less, the drug thing was the worst of a bunch of problems with the band, and the scene in general. The feeling of being at a Phish show and having people around you not even giving a fuck about the music but more interested with whatever their buddies were up to or what drugs they could do. and the band saw this and it obviously affected them.

(accident thread hijack)

Well this album is a pop album… so expect POP. Still I really like it. Army of One stands out imo… I fing myself pressing repeat 2-3 times everytime I listen to the CD. Undermind is a brilliant little tune and I even find myself bopping and humming along to Nothing. It seems to me hardcore tourheads may not like this offering as there is no jamming. BUT if you want to hear a little of what they couldv’e done with some of this material then give a listen to 6-19 SPAC asihtos… that would satisfy the headiest of heads… which then goes into that monster Piper… but I digress.

^also, 7/13/03 @ the gorge… sass with intro. The sickness. Seriously.

Yeah, that 6/19 SPAC show rules, as does the 6/20 SPAC show.

^first set’s been in my car cd player for two weeks straight. All because of that DROWNED JAM! holy fucking shit! Thanks again for that show, Icc!

oops. thread hijack.

Those two shows are worth a thread hijack:) Honestly they were some of the best shows I’ve seen/heard… -7>ghost>twist fergetabouit. Haha I was going nuts with praises all thru the set break over that drowned jam… people were staring

Thread hijack back on topic: yes, Undermind is worth picking up, just like all Phish releases ultimately are. What else are you going to spend the money on?? Drugs, alcohol, women…? Drugs will wear off, alcohol will run out, and women will (potentially) break your heart. The only two things you can count on in life as being there for you all the time are friends and Phish.

I agree with Icc, buy Junta First. It’s phenomenal. Then buy Undermind, because I just took another listen, and it’s worth it.

I really like Undermind. The first six tracks are great. After that it takes a different turn. Not bad, just different. Come to think of it…except for Secret Smile and maybe Maggie’s Revenge, the whole album is pretty strong.

I think the drawback to the album is that we didn’t get to hear those songs evolve in a live setting. At least the ones that could have…

Junta to Undermind is quite a huge change to make!

Yes, that is a huge change. But someone (sorry, I’m too lazy to look up who) said that they needed Junta and Undermind to finish their studio collection. And I think Junta is definetly worth picking up, as well as Undermind. And I wouldn’t suggest to any new phan making the Junta - Undermind jump. That’s quite a leap.

It’s a good CD

I think we didn’t hear enough Development of the songs live, the album is worth getting. DVD is good.

I love undermind, i wouldn’t use it as a frisbee (thats why they make AOL samples).
today i sing tomorrows song…

Heh that is classic. I’m going to have to use that in a story someday.
