good stuff mj!
I just found a poem I wrote a year ago and have been missing since. Holy shit, it’s so inspired. I went canoeing and ended up finding this same island that me and a friend got caught on in a storm when we were about 13 (it’s in the shape of a teardrop). I remember when I found this island the second time, I was baffled because of that alone, not to mention that it was such a beautiful day, and I just so happened to have a pen and paper and started writing what I think is the best thing that I’ve ever written.
Teardrop Island
Shadetree near the ripples,
Waves flow then collide.
The clouds above, they mimick
The breeze a shorebird rides.
The roots of shadetree penetrate
The ground and then subside.
I sit on them and gaze around
Among the dragonflies.
The wind picks up and sends
The water into spins.
Mountains of fluids rise
And then subside again.
As Turtle basks and ponders
Across the lake from me,
I watch him as I do the same
In our little sea.
The moss on roots below,
Remind of a storm long ago,
But that has passed and I am here,
On my island aboard the flow.
