i think we did the same amount of shows that tour (you skipped albany & MN iirc and i skipped chicago & MN)…
after that show ended, i knew it wasnt gonna be topped.
as i was leaving, i told my buddy that that was the best show i saw since 8-1-98.i stated that as a fact.
they tried to keep it up the next night, but fell kinda short (although the set on paper is HOT!)
a
did you make it over to the mandalay bay to catch les afterwards? what an incredible night of music!!! i don’t think i slept once! vegas + phish = heaven on earth
i feel like a wolfman’s is too slow and takes too long to develop to be an opener with energy.
this is a great opening segue and less than 2 months earlier too. though, after the peak of drowned it gets slow for a while.
a second song 2001 wouldnt do it for me especially after a rocking opener like funky bitch. i like 2001 in the second set when im ready to hear them lay back and just explore.
obviously, these are all personal preferences but i still like the 1998-12-29 openers the best…for now.
nah.
rolls dont affect how i judge shows.
i was eating 4 rolls a night on that tour and could give
a fair review of each of them.
i never really so far gone where i was too distracted to
understand what was going on musically.

9-28-99 Set 1:
Wolfman’s Brother
Sneakin’ Sally
Tube
really good call on this one!
as for opening sequences how about 12/29/97 NICU > Golgi > Crossroads…I don’t even care that much for NICU or Golgi, but the combination of these three is just awesome.
i like 9-14-00 a lot.
especially the first set.
its funny because that was the first time i was on the lawn for a pavilion/lawn venue ever…and i got soaked.
but, the 2nd set does meander a bunch, although i think that the 1st set more than makes up for it.
also, it was the the fifth show in a row without any repeats.

I only saw nine shows, so this isn’t too tough for me.
1997 - 11/16/97 - Denver - my first show. Unfortunately, I only went to the first night at McNichols, and didn’t know they were going to throw down a thunderous show the next night.
1998 - 8/1/98 - Alpine Valley - first outdoor show. epic. Opened w/ Ramble On, my fave song from my fave band in high school.
1999 - 10/1/99 Ames - only saw two shows (the other being 7/24/99), but I got to take several newbs to the Ames show…too much fun.
2000 - 8/7/00 - Alpine
2003 - 7/17/03 - KC
2004 - 6/25/04 - Alpine first night. I call this the “hard” night, and 6/26 the “easy” night.
Okay, I busted out my uberdork fanboy notebook, so here goes.
Fav’s Ive seen
11/21/92 Stony Brook U-only other show I’d seen to this point was a Horde at Jones Beach. This was the best concert I’d ever seen at 17years old. Probably the first time I ever danced like a fool without worry over whether or not I looked cool. 'Cause everyone else was.
2/06/93 Roseland Ballroom- John Popper on harp for B.A. and Possum. Thats all I can honestly remember about this show. After all it was 13 years ago. Again, the best concert experience I ever had to this point.
7/15/94 Jones Beach. I wrote Down in my Journal a specific jam on Jessica in David Bowie, and I can distinctly remember it. It was the first time I could recognize another song jammed inside a song, and at 19, thought Phish were gods.
7/03/95 Summerstage Sugarbush VT My first summer with my own car. so I could drive where i wanted to. I spent most of my money from my part time job on 4 summer shows through mail order(remember mail order). This one may go down as one of my top 5 or six ever. Although I can distinctly remember them trashing Lizards, and attempting to cover it up with a BBFCM
8/17/96 Day two Clifford Ball - Set 2- 'nuff said
8/17/97 Day two Great Went - Set 2- 'nuff said (although 12/30/97 needs to be mentioned, it just loses out by a nose. Its first set didnt do much for me)
4/3/98 Nassau Coliseum - Never have I seen music played the way Phish played this second Set. Groundbreaking.
12/31/99 Big Cypress - Best concert in the History of the world. Anyone who thinks otherwise ought to have their head examined
2000- I took a break from Phish. After my last Phish show, I just thought It was the right way to end it.
2003- 2/28/03 Nassau Coliseum God did I get lucky with my first show back. We ALL had a DESTINY on this night!
