^^ yes I have only recently got into Elton - his media image over here is so repellent (a prima donna more interested in shopping than music). My dad was a big fan and I kind of grew up with Elton’s music but we only ever had the records from Captain Fantastic on (I’m not sure if my Dad ever had the earlier ones, but if he did, they probably got stolen in a burglary - we had a few in the seventies). I know the eighties stuff very well and still have all those LPs but they are not really a good representation. I have just discovered the classic era (up to Blue Moves I’m guessing) and loving it. After Fantastic, I’d probably peg for Tumbleweed. Awesome!
I can totally understand this…I can’t either, especially since my top five changes constantly.
And, yes, we do need to determine if it’s studio albums only or not…if it was all albums then I’d probably have five live albums listed. Oh well…Without having access to my CDs right now, I’ll try…this is gonna suck…
Umm…
Talking Heads - Naked
Moody Blues - Their first five albums…ug…I have to chose?..Alright…A Question of Balance
Madonna - Ray of Light (Don’t laugh. It’s really good, though her newest is giving this a run for its money)
Air - Talkie Walkie
And ABBA’s Greatest Hits? Does that count? Probably not. It’s good stuff
Ug…I can’t think of a fifth. See? I knew this wouldn’t work.
And is anyone else REALLY disoriented about the John McCain banner with the word “McCain” flying all over the place. Good to see that ole John’s going for the druggie vote. By the way, McCain knows he has no chance, right?
Stevo
Well, I have his entire library, including bootlegs on my computer, vinyl, and CD form if you need a album hook up or two.
here is the 11-17-70 live show release, SBD:

send me a PM And we can talk!
Yeah, Elton’s the man. The first time I heard Goodbye Yellown Brick Road, I seriously thought it was a greatest hits album. I mean, it’s amazing how almost every song on that album is recognizable and good. I feel the same way about basically every Doors and Zeppelin album.
By the way, shoot me for not including one of those in my list above. See?..this is why I can’t do a list. I’d have to include basically every one by both bands.
Thanks for the sendspace. It’s at capacity so no download yet but when it frees up I’ll grab it.
I’m not short of studio / official Elton but I would be interested in some boots. I’ll go with this show for now and maybe get another later.
The band he had in the early 70s were just the shizzle. I really think their contribution is greatly undervalued.
one of my top 5 songs is def ‘off he goes’ from no code. i honestly think pearl jam peaked with this album as nothing ive heard since then can come even close in comparison.
^“in my tree” “red mosquito” “smile” “sometimes” “mankind” “hail hail”
i’m really happy to see such love for No Code on this board.
it seems to be their unsung masterpiece.
Personally i don’t think they’ve made a bad album yet. Motherfucker, i could go on and on about this but the only reason there is no PJ in my top 5 is because i honestly can’t pick one. If i had to just narrow it down to my 3 favorite PJ albums i would probably go with “Vs.” “Binaural” and the newest one though.
^^ You forgot “Present Tense”
top 3 - Vs., Yield, Pearl Jam
Thanks for the sendspace. It’s at capacity so no download yet but when it frees up I’ll grab it.

most definitely on the band. when you listen to this 11-17-70 live album it is just a trio: Elton on keys and vox, Dee Murray (HIGHLY UNDERRATED bass player), and Nigel on Drums. the sound is fantastic and Dee’s bass sounds SICK.
the burn down the mission>my baby left me>get back jam is SICK!!!
man i could talk about elton for days.
I’m basing this off of albums that I can listen to all the way through at any time and not hit fast forward to the next song.
Rolling Stones
there’s no way in hell that i could give you a top 5 favorite album list but i’ll throw 5 of my favorites out there:
in no order:
Pavement - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain
Bad Religion - Stranger than Fiction
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Talking Heads - True Stories
The Roots - Things Fall Apart

Blue Sky
Didn’t Duane sing on Blue Sky too? I always wonder who that is cuz it doesn’t sound like Greg.
my 5
the wall
abbey road
junta
garcia
moon safari (air)

dickey betts
in no particular order…
Thriller, MJ (go ahead and laugh. this album is spectacular. i wished i was black from the ages of 9-12. why? the funk)
Joshua Tree, U2 (undeniably one of the best albums of the 80’s…or of all time…ever.)
Boy, U2 (what can i say? they were my favorite band on earth for about a decade. this one still sounds fresh and new and powerful to this day. sure beats the hell out of whatever top 40 junk thier schlepping out these days)
Billy Breathes, Phish (pure transcendent beauty, front to back)
SOTGhost, Phish (the dark side of Billy Breathes. Blew my mind on the first listen. on the right kind of autumn night, it still does)
shit, that’s five.
i gotta throw in Cold Roses by Ryan Adams & the Cardinals. it truly is a masterpiece.
edit: AND Murder Ballads by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. nasty album. breathtaking, though.
k. that’s all.
edit: GA! i won’t be able to sleep tonight if i don’t throw in Boys and Girls in America by the Hold Steady. this album is like crack mixed with heroin mixed with squeezy cheez and trisquits mixed with with grape drink. that’s how good it is.
so there’s my top 8 for now.
^ Nice to see recognition of Thriller, probably the single most innovative album of the 80s. Despite his behavioral issues, Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones created one of the most important collection of music of the second half of the century. All of the current pop music is grounded in what these two men created in the early eighties.
EAT A PEACH: Allman Brothers…does not get any better
A LOVE SUPREME: John Coltrane…absolute perfection of 60s jazz
HARVEST: Neil Young…imo neil’s absolute best
AMERICAN BEAUTY: The Grateful Dead…Box of Rain is probably my favorite opening song on any album and my favorite Dead ballad
The 5th spot is a bit of a wild card but I’ll go with
A TRIBUTE TO JACK JOHNSON: Miles Davis…just awesome
Alice in Chains-Unplugged
Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run
The Grateful Dead-American Beauty
Young Jeezy-Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101
Guns ‘N’ Roses-Appetite for Destruction
I’m not sure on those, except for Thug Motivation & Unplugged. Unplugged blows me away every time, stellar.
Flaming Lips- Soft Bulletin
Beach Boys- Pet Sounds
Radiohead- The Bends
Phish- Junta
The Beatles- Abbey Road
